Finding You

Chapter~~2

            Why not, it’s not like it’ll kill me. This is technically the best way to find out what tears taste like.

Slowly I leaned forward, opened my mouth, and licked his finger. At first it didn’t taste like much, but it soon became so much more. I tasted sweetness, and mint. Warmth spread through my body and I slowly relaxed. I felt safe and content. I looked to Lucas who had an expectant but gentle smile for me. My heart skipped a beat.

“What do you think?” he asked. I smiled back at him.

“It’s like nothing I’ve ever tasted before.” I said serenely. Lucas quietly chuckled.

“Well that might be because you licked the wrong finger, and not your tear” he said clearly enjoying himself.

“What?” I said stunned. “No I saw the tear.” I’m sure I saw the tear before I licked it. I felt my cheeks getting warmer.

“Really?” Lucas said sounding very doubtful.

Did I see the tear? I became unsure if I had actually seen the tear on his finger. “Yeah really” I said trying to sound convincing. Lucas held out a finger with a tiny droplet of water on it. How is that possible? “I was so sure that I licked that finger though.” I was very confused as to what just happened.

“Nope” he said sounding just fine with it. He quickly licked his finger and my tear. He looked me straight in the eyes. His eyes were bright but calm. “Mmmmm” he said sounding very content.

“Do you approve?” I asked sarcastically.

Lucas leaned in closer, still looking me dead in the eyes and said “It is the best tear I have ever tasted.” Even though I thought he was joking he looked serious, but still gentle. He backed up a little. “You never told me your name” he pointed out.

            He held my gaze, and I felt as though I was stuck and I couldn’t look away. As I looked in his eyes I forgot about everything else. There was nothing but his brilliant golden eyes. There was no pain, and there was no suffering, I was content.

“I’m Navia” I said as I reluctantly looked away. All my pain came back in the instant I looked away.  It came back so fast I flinched from it. That sudden movement made my head pound.

“Why are you down here, Navia?” Lucas asked. Lucas gracefully sank down next to me.

I looked over at him and said “I ran away.”

He looked me over and must have noticed that I’m wearing a hospital gown because he asked “From the hospital?” He looked confused. “Why?”

“I’m all alone.” I looked down at my feet.

My family is gone, and I have no one else. My mom was an only child and my dad only had one brother but he died four years ago. All my grandparents died of old age and the only cousins I have live in France. My parents didn’t want anything to do with them for some reason. I had no other family other than my parents and Vicki. Vicki. I think I miss Vicki the most. I love my parents dearly, but Vicki and I did everything together. We knew everything about each other. Vicki and I were connected. We knew if either of us was hurting or angry. We could always just tell. I will miss having her always there for me.

“No you are not I am here with you” he smiled down at me. “Besides, I am sure your family will come to visit you soon.” Lucas smiled at me but even though he smiled his eyes were sad and grew slightly colder.

I have this strange feeling as though he’s lying to me. Somehow I feel like he knows my family is gone. That’s impossible though, he doesn’t even know me, and how would he know about what happened.
