You were hyper-aware that many of your students wished that you and Bucky were together. In fact, maybe you didn't discourage it enough. You'd been best friends since he'd arrived at the school two years earlier as the new gym coach, immediately hitting it off because everyone was either so much older than you, or too stuck up. Expect for Natasha (the Russian teacher) of course, who most of the teachers didn't even speak a word to, but you'd somehow gotten on the good side of. All three of you would visit each other's classrooms, sit together in the staff room, and monitor the cafeteria together; and the students essentially knew you as the younger, more relatable teachers.

Bucky and you had always been close, but in a different way. He was kind, and gentler than you thought anyone else saw. He would often give kids a tough time in class, and make jokes with them, but he'd always been so polite and thoughtful around you. Before him, Natasha was your only solace from work; but your free time didn't line up as often as you wanted it to. When Bucky came, he'd always make the time to sit with you while you both marked papers, or bring you a snack during your free periods - and you'd do the same in return. You couldn't count how many times he'd have you laughing your head while you were supposed to be planning lessons, or losing track of time in the evenings when you met up outside of school.

Something about him was so bright and easy to be friends with, and you cherished that pretty much every day you had to wake up at 5 am.

This, of course, brought on rumours that you were dating, between both teachers and students alike. You weren't sure why it wasn't the same for him and Natasha, or even Natasha and yourself; but you guessed that people clearly saw and believed what they wanted to see. You were routinely embarrassed when it was brought up or hinted at (whether Bucky brought it up in private, or people implode it in front of the both of you), blushing like crazy, and Bucky would just smile and shake his head. You hated that your face gave away so much.

On this particular occasion, Bucky was walking you to the library because you needed to talk to the school librarian about getting novels for your class. He was in a blue polo neck, and his dark hair was tied in a bun, his whistle dangling around his neck - you constantly made fun of him for what the school required him to wear, but you had to admit he made it look as handsome as ever. He tended to be like that.

You overheard two girls sitting on a bench as you passed them, talking about what was a school-wide topic at that point. You couldn't help but feel warmth spread across your cheeks as you looked down, practically feeling Bucky staring at the side of your face.

"Oh, what? Would it be that bad?" He asked jokingly, and you could hear a smile on his lips.

When you looked up, you were greeted by warm eyes (despite being so blue), and you realized you were now in front of the big double doors leading to the library.

"No, no!" You over-compensated slightly too loudly, and he couldn't help but chuckle. You but your lip slightly, holding back a grin, "It's just kind of weird that people are talking about us like that . . ." You admitted.

His features softened and he could help but nod, and if you weren't in public you were sure he'd be holding your arm comfortingly, "Yeah, I get it. Don't worry," He assured with a kind gaze. "You still coming over for drinks later?" He asked with a raised eyebrow, a smile playing on his lips in anticipation of your answer.

"Of course," You beamed at him, and he couldn't help but admire you for a moment. That was one of the only things that got him through the school year time and time again. "See you later?" You asked, making sure to meet his eyes sincerely.

"See you later," He confirmed, pulling you in for a hug, his arms wrapped around you tight. When he pulled away, it wasn't long before he was walking off to the teacher's parking lot, taking one last glance back at you before he was gone. You couldn't help but watch him the whole time.

You composed yourself slightly, adjusting the strap of your bag as you entered the library through the swinging door. Being a member of the English department, you were quite close with the Head librarian, and would often have to go to her with your book-related problems. Headmaster Fury had a very big thing about not wanting you to come to him with lower level decisions or issues. You guessed he probably did have something better to worry about than locating 30 copies of 'Hamlet'.

When you finally got to the front desk, you noticed that it was particularly barren. There were some kids scattered around doing their home work, and others tucked in corners keeping themselves occupied because they didn't want to sit outside. Where Miss Carter would usually greet you, was no one, and you furrowed your eyebrows as you peered towards the back room. You leaned against the counter, standing on your tip-toes to try and locate someone to talk to at the very least.

"Can I help you, m'am?" You heard from beside you, giving you a fright that made you jump slightly, touching your hand to your heart. When you looked over, you saw a man that you hadn't met before, standing in earnest as he watched you.

When he finally had you look at him, he seemed to become nervous under your eyes. He was clearly your age, but had a slight frame and was shorter than you; despite this, he was also quite pretty, with gentle blue eyes that looked at you through long lashes. "I'm sorry if I scared you," He told you genuinely.

You couldn't help but feel something akin to butterflies in your stomach. It wasn't often that you thought things like that. "Oh, um, it's okay! Have you seen Miss Carter?" You asked him, watching as his gaze now avoided yours shyly. He wore a shirt that was slightly too big for him, tucked into his slacks with his suspenders holding the up. There was something that seemed quite sweet about him; something totally opposite to what you got from Bucky or Natasha. They tended to be more straight-forward.

"She's not here today, but I can help. I'm new," He told you, finally gathering the courage to look up again, "Peggy said she needed help, and I couldn't turn her down," He explained, a hint of a smile drifting to his lips in a way that made your heart flutter.

"Oh, are you two friends?" You pried curiously, since you mostly knew a lot of Peggy's friends outside of work, and you wouldn't be surprised if you'd heard of him from stories.

"The best," He admitted in reply, letting his shoulders relax slightly, "I'm Steve Rogers by the way . . . Mr. Rogers around here, I guess." You could see his cheeks fill with a blush at his belated addition, and you thought it looked quite nice on him.

"I've heard about you from Peggy. Only good things, of course," You assured him with an easy smile, and he couldn't help but mirror you slightly, chuckling almost nervously (now wondering what Peggy could have said about him without his knowledge. Gosh, she really tended to embarrass him).

"I hope so," His expression clearly seemed stressed as his hand went to rub the back of his neck awkwardly, and you couldn't help but hold back a laugh in reply, ". . . So, what do you need?"
