dang I cried when (spoilers galore) they killed Kevin. hit me hard. but in this story, it'll be the time frame where Kevin was on the safe boat working to translate the demon tablet. at this point, Crowley isn't even close yet, and we're going to pretend Garth had nothing to do with this other than setting up the safe boat. now to the fun part!

"You want me to do what, exactly? Babysit some 'prophet of the lord'? Why can't he take care of himself if he's so special? Oh, but wait. It's the Winchesters asking. Let me put you first on the to-do list instead. Clearly I have nothing else to get done, Dean. Not busy killing demons, monsters, or you know, saving innocent lives," you spoke sarcastically into the phone. Damn Winchesters really would be the death of you. Rather literally.

"Listen up, he isn't just some kid, you son of a-" you had to pull the phone away from your ear a little, but he was thankfully cut off before he got to the colorful part.

"Hey, (y/n). Sorry about that. But, look, Dean's right.... Kevin isn't just a kid. Right now, he's the only person who can read this thing, and he tells us it can do much more than kill a few demons. With the tablet, he can save more lives than any of us ever could, (y/n). Trust us on this one. He needs to stay safe," Sam explained much more calmly, despite his similar tone of defiance and determination.

"Yeah, and there's no one as trustworthy as you two," you rolled your eyes. There was no way they were dragging you into babysitting. It simply would never happen.

-

"Kevin, I'm home! Got burgers, fries, milkshakes, even... We are going to have quite a feast tonight," you called as you shut, locked, and bolted the boat's marked up door behind you with your free hand.

Turns out, well, in short, Kevin wasn't just a kid. Funny, those Winchesters. You hated it when they were right.

"Kevin? Kevin!" When there was no immediate response like normal, you naturally went into emergency mode. Practically jogging, - as well as you could, considering the layout of the boat - you made a beeline for the bedroom when a quick investigation proved him not to be at his desk.

"Here! Here! Please don't give me a tardy slip, I'm here to take the test!" Relief hit you as Kevin's voice did, and you abruptly stopped at the doorway to his room. Smiling a little to yourself, you saw Kevin, his weary eyes peacefully closed as he lay taking up the whole bed. He talked in his dreams a lot. Not that he slept a lot.

You were sincerely worried about Kevin these days. For a while, you would only stop in a couple times a month. But as you visited more, you started to like him more. When you found out he didn't eat unless it was when you came by with a meal already prepared, you freaked. Now, you two lived together in the ramshackle boat. You weren't dating, but, if you were completely honest with yourself, you wished you were. But it was kind of hard to focus on chrushing on a guy when that guy almost never ate, slept, or smiled. He had been living and breathing all things tablet, not much else. Even now, it was hard to get him away from his desk. It was a rare and thrilling moment for you to see him actually resting up.

"No! No, I know that's the right answer! Stop saying it's wrong, please. It can't be.. It can't be!" so it was another SAT nightmare. This was the tamest of his reoccurring ones, and each time you heard him you were conflicted on whether or not to wake him. If you did wake him, he probably wouldn't go back to his bed for a day at the very least. Not to mention that it was still barely evening, so Kevin had to be dead tired to crawl into bed at this hour. But tossing, turning, and sweating over SATs he'll never get to take doesn't scream restfulness, and neither does skipping dinner. So the question became how long it had been since he slept. You counted, took a second, counted twice, and then counted again to be sure. But you were unfortunately confident in your answer - six days. For today, you were going to say the nightmare was worth it.
