This chapter is dedicated to Anonymous-Me for keep supporting me all the way (;

thank you !

I stood in front of the door with a stupid grin spreading on my face. Partly because Kyle asked me out and secondly, my ‘dinner’ was waiting for me inside of the house. I could hear Max bathing inside from the sound of water and the scent of the familiar shampoo hanging in the air. The sound and smell helped me to cover up as I planned to sneak into the house.

I tried my best to unlock the door without making a single noise. Not even a breath. Hungrily, I rushed towards the fridge and took out the blood, drinking it without wasting a single drop of it. I took the second pack and drained the blood as well.

"BOOM!" Max jumped out of nowhere, and roared right beside my ear. I almost chocked and put on a panicky expression. Luckily I didn't spill any blood out from the bag, or it would have been a complete waste.

His hot warm breath tickled my neck and I could feel the heat radiating from his body, which was so close to me. "What?" I spluttered, and shot him death glare for scaring me off.

Max furrowed his brows and protested, “Is that how you treat someone who brought you your food?” He leaned in, with his face dangerously close to mine.

“No,” I answered, truly repentant for my rudeness. Max softened his eyes when he noticed my tone. “Alright,” he sighed, turning his head slightly to the right and demanded with a hint of playfulness in his voice, “Give me a peck on the cheek and I’ll forgive you”.

My eyes widened. Max had never made a request like this before. I narrowed my eyes, curious about his intentions. ‘It was just a peck, right?’ I convinced myself. I moved forward with my eyes closed. When my lips landed on his ‘cheek’, I scowled. That didn’t feel like cheek. I opened my eyes and saw Max cool blue eyes boring into mine. I was shocked for a second but snapped back to reality when a corner of his lip lifted up.

I jumped back abruptly and hit the back of my head hard against the wall.  Moaning in pain, I used my hand to rub the part where it had collided, to try and ease the pain. Max asked if I was okay, with a worried expression on his face. He pulled me towards him and placed my head on his chest carefully. Then, he rubbed it gently as if I was a fragile doll. I kept complaining even though it didn’t hurt as much as before, but it was sweet to see how much he cared about me. After a few moment of enjoying myself with my head on his chest, I took the glass of water nearby and poured it on the shirt he was wearing. It was his favourite.

"Ha! This is for scaring me and kissing me without my permission!" I said childishly and ran off before he could react.

“Eve, you are so dead," I laughed at his words and ran faster than I ever had before.

At school the next day, I stared blankly at the teacher who was talking about relationships between vampires and human and they how they should be friends. I had completely zoned out from the rest of it. My head was totally filled with the encounter I had with Max yesterday, it replayed continuously again and again just like a movie. I probably looked like a lovesick girl right now.

When the bell finally rang, it saved me from my daydream. Jess pulled me to the cafeteria as she introduced me to some of her friends.

I paused the moment I recognized her so-called friends were human, by the bracelet on their hands.  I lifted my eyebrow at Jess, unsure if it was safe to be with them. Jess sent me a reassuring smile and dragged me towards the table where they were sitting.

"Hi everyone, this is Eve!" Jess beamed at them with her arms locked with mine. I made an expressionless face, not knowing how to deal with this kind of situation. Smile? Nah, too weird. Jess elbowed me; she knew that I was being unfriendly. She said telepathically, ‘Eve, smile! They won't bite you!'

I rolled my eyes at her choice of words, 'Of course they won't bite me. But I will bite them.'

The two girls exchanged glance as we were communicating silently. One of them broke the silence, “I’m Jenny and this is Grace." Me, still being stubborn, stood still and gazed at her as if she was an alien.

Jess sighed, knowing that I was being stubborn. She threatened me, 'Eve, say hi! Or else I'm going to tell Max what happened yesterday.'

I looked at her, my mouth hung open in a small ‘o’ shape of disbelief. How dare she? Jess chuckled smugly in triumph.

I sighed in surrender and said, "Hi Jenny." I greeted with a fake smile plastered on my face. "I'll go get some food, I'm starving," I lied and left eagerly before she could even reply.

"Eve, is it that hard to talk nicely to a human?" Jess murmured, catching up with me. "Yes," I nodded furiously and shivered dramatically.

After we bought our food, I went back reluctantly to sit with those human friends. I decided to dig in and ignore them for the rest of the break. I don’t think I’d ever want to talk to them. I didn’t hate humans; I just thought that it was extremely weird to be friends with your prey.

“Do you believe in vampires?” Jenny asked with her eyes filled with curiosity, trying to make conversation.  I almost choked when I heard that; obviously it was a bad topic, especially with two vampires sitting in front of her. Jess smiled as if the question didn't bother her, “I don’t know, why? Do you think so?”

“Have you read Twilight?” Jenny shrugged and added, “It was a novel about vampire romance, and they say that vampires sparkle under the sun.”

“What? Sparkle under the sun?” I repeated her words and made a face. I looked at my hand and then at Jess. Did we sparkle?

No.

Grace nodded her head and commented, “Edward is so hot,” She took a sip of her drink and started to daydream about her and “Edward”.

“No! Jacob.” Jenny sapped.

‘What’s that? Did you read it?’ I asked Jess whilst half eating and listening to the humans quarrelling about “Edward” and “Jacob”.

‘Not yet, but I heard that it was quite popular among the teenagers’ she answered and asked out loud, “Do you guys have the novel? I really want to read it!” She pouted at them.

“Nah, sorry, but there’s a movie, maybe you two can check it out when you’re free,” Jenny stated as she used her hand to flip her fiery red hair to the side.

“Of course we will,” Jess beamed with enthusiasm and sent me a wink. I shut my eyes and sighed dramatically. A vampire movie, seriously?

We finished the food and just as we were preparing to leave I sensed a strong, evil aura. I frowned as this aura seemed familiar to me. I must have met this person before, but I just couldn’t remember whom it belonged to. I scanned around the cafeteria to find the person but it was too late. The aura was gone as quickly as it had appeared. Jess felt my tension and asked anxiously, “Is there something wrong?"

“No,” I lied and gave her a reassuring smile.

Finally, after the long torturous day, I came back home, hoping that I could have a nice nap before going to the club. Max appeared without warning and frightened me again. I wanted to complain but when I noticed his dead serious face, I knew that something bad had happened.

“What?” I raised one of my eyebrows.

“Lucifer is back.” His eyes changed from blue to pure black and his voice was icy cold. His words sent a shiver down my spine.
