Chapter 3: Unsolved Mystery

Start from the beginning

"Of course. I love battling strong trainers." She smiled and I watched as Gary battled her. It didn't seem too challenging for him and he beat her without much effort.

"I see you're quite the trainer, but I shouldn't expect anything less from Professor Oak's grandson. Plus you're traveling with the champion of Kanto. It's only natural that you're in a league of your own. Here as proof of your victory at the Eterna City gym the Forest Badge." She handed him the badge and I smiled lightly.

"I think our battle should wait until your pokemon are healed. We were planning on resting here for the night so does tomorrow morning work for you?" I asked Gardenia.

"Yeah, that's fine by me." Gary and I left after that exchange. We headed to the pokemon center to get a room for the night.

"Please enjoy your stay." Nurse Joy said.

"Thank you, we will."

Later that night I laid in bed thinking about all I had experienced here in the Sinnoh region, even though I kept telling myself that I had never seen half of these pokemon before, I feel as if I have. They always stay in the back of my mind and when I see them it's like they finally register to me.

"Kat, are you not able to sleep?" Umbreon asked me quietly, because Gary was already asleep. Snoring I might add, very loudly.

"Not really no, do you wanna go for a walk?" I asked and she nodded. She jumped out of the bed lightly and I followed her outside. "There's something I want to tell you Umbreon and it has to stay between us." She looked at me worried. "Don't worry it's nothing bad, it's just ever since we arrived here I feel as if I know more about this place than I let you guys believe. I understand that I probably came from here since this is the closest region aside from Hoenn region, but I feel no connection to there, but here I do. I feel as if I should have traveled here first." Umbreon rubbed her head against my leg.

"You're fine, Kat. It's only natural that you would feel that way. I mean you're from here, whether you want to believe it or not you are. I know you want to know who you are but somethings might not be worth answering. What if you find the answers and they aren't what you want to hear?" I thought about those words and I felt a shiver run down my spine.

"I shouldn't want to feel like I want to run as far away from this place as I can, but I do. I want to continue on my journey without feeling as if I should be hiding as well. I mean a lot of people know I'm here, shouldn't my family recognize me if I see them, shouldn't I recognize them?" I wondered out loud.

"We'll know when you do see them, but Kat I just don't want you to get your hopes up. Sometimes things happen and change your life forever. Maybe there's a reason you and I met, I don't want you to get hurt Kat. I want you to enjoy your journey and I want you to be able to hold the dreams you have high. Achieve what you set out to do by all means but also know what to do afterwards." I nodded and looked at the night sky.

"You know, when I meet you Umbreon I felt like you were met to be my partner. Even if we meet Jolteon again, you'll still be my partner, that will never change. But I would like to bring Jolteon along as well if that's alright with you." She nodded and a smile was on her face.

"You had a bond with another pokemon, that's fine with me. I have bonds with other humans like Gary, Ash, Misty and Brock that doesn't mean I don't want to continue traveling with you." I smiled and looked back at the sky.

"Then let's solve the mysteries before us in the Sinnoh region." I felt a throbbing pain in my head and I dropped to the ground in agony, this was different than the other memories I had. The pain was like someone was sticking a knife in my head and twisted it around and around.

"Kat, what's wrong?" Umbreon asked as she saw the pain I was in.

"Something's different...the pain is a lot....worse..." I muttered through the splitting pains.

"What are you seeing?" She asked but that's when a voice appeared in my head.

Kat, please tell me you can hear me...

Who is this?

It's me, Jolteon...don't tell me you don't remember me...

Jolteon! Are you alright?!

No, he has me...

After that the voice cut out and I was left to sit there wondering who he was.

"Kat, Kat what's wrong?" Umbreon finally appeared in front of my face.

"I heard Jolteon's voice. Jolteon is being held by someone...someone I should know, but I don't remember..." I finally got out.

"Kat..." I slammed my hand down into the ground.

"If only I could remember then Jolteon would be alright, I would go and make sure whoever is doing this pays for it. Why can't I remember anything!?" I yelled and felt tears streaming down my face.

"Kat, we'll figure this out I promise." Umbreon pressed her face against mine as more tears ran down my face.

"I want to protect him, Umbreon. I want him to be safe, I let him down by letting whoever took him do this. I made a promise to him that I would always look out for him, I would never let another person hurt him like his former trainer..." My head straightened as I remembered that much in a split second.

"So Jolteon was abandoned too." Umbreon muttered and looked at the ground as her ears flattened.

"Jolteon's trainer did more than just abandoned it, he beat Jolteon until Jolteon was too weak to fight back. Then he left Jolteon to die...I have to find him, we have to Umbreon." She nodded determined.

"For now I'll try to figure out where that signal came from." I said and we rushed back to the pokemon center as the sun was coming up. I was already changed and ready for the day when Gary finally woke up.

"Kat, why are you up so early?" He asked and I looked at him lightly.

"We have to part ways Gary." He jumped up sharply at those words.

"What? Why?"

"Because you need to focus on getting your gym badges and I need to focus on finding Jolteon, I got a message from Jolteon last night via telepathy, someone has him and is hurting him. I need to remember everything or I won't be able to find him and make sure no one hurts him again. So I want you to go on your own and we'll meet back up together at Snowpoint City. Sound like a plan?" I asked.

"Kat..."

"Please Gary, I have to do this by myself. Umbreon and I can handle whatever comes our way so I want you to earn the badges and get into the Sinnoh League, there's a gym in Snowpoint City, so it's not a bad idea to meet back up there." He sighed and then nodded. "Thank you." I turned to head out of the room.

"Promise me you'll make it there." He said lightly. I looked back at him with a smirk.

"I promise that I'll beat you there." He chuckled and I walked out of the room with Umbreon.

"Are you ready for this?" Umbreon asked as we headed outside into the blinding sunlight.

"Yeah, but we first need to have our battle with Gardenia."
