"At least you know she's alive. Keep searching for her. Don't stop now, Damien."
"But she won't want to see me. She doesn't want me to find her."
"Well, do you love her? If so, then get your ass off the ground like a big boy and finish what we started. Find her and tell her how you feel. Make her want to come back. You can't just let her go, can you?"
I shook my head. I knew I couldn't let her go. I loved her too much and I just had to prove that to her. If I had to get on my hands and knees and beg for her forgiveness than I would. I didn't care about my pride; I never really had any.
I continued to cry until my eyes were red and swollen, but after a while, no tears were coming out. When I was ready to stand Mitri helped me up and I looked at him.
"Damien, don't be silly. Claire loves you too you big dummy. Just because she left you doesn't mean that. What I mean to say is that when I told her she would escape the look on her face said it all. She said she didn't want to leave because there was something she had to tell you. When I looked at her, I saw something in her eyes. I didn't know it at first, but now I do. That thing I saw was her love for you. She loves you and I don't think that will change, but there is only one way to find out."
Mitri was right. I wasn't going to give up, not just yet. I hate to find my mate. My heart ached beyond imagination without her. I felt cold as if I was numb without her warmth radiating me. I needed her so badly and I was going to find her, I just didn't know how.
*Claire's PoV*
After our quite somewhat quiet dinner, Leon stood up to begin to put the fire out. He stood up and began to kick dirt of the flames with his shoe until not a spark was left. As he was attending to the fire, Winter picked up our supplies as Isidora checked Chase. I observed each of them until I figured I would make myself useful.
When I asked Winter if she needed help, but she just rolled her eyes so I took that as a no. I decided I would go to Isidora and Chase.
"Do you think he will live?" I asked.
"At this rate...it's possible, but not likely. He'll be dead real soon if we don't get him aid. His body is beginning to lose its warmth and his skin is turning white. He's lost alot of blood from the attack and even with stopping those wounds..."
I looked down at Chase sadly. His face was ashen with dried blood splattered everywhere on his face and hair. His eyes were closed; opening them would most likely drain his energy so he tried to save what he had left.
"Chase, you will be alright. You'll make it! I know you will." I said trying to sound confident, but instead my voice sounded weak and uncertain.
"Claire, it's alright to tell me I'm screwed." Chase laughed in between coughs, "I know I must look a mess which is so unacceptable in front of the ladies."
He smiled boyishly wincing as he did.
"It's sickening of how you can joke when you are near death." I scolded, "You should save your energy. Please I don't want you to die."
"Sorry. I promise I won't die on you so I'll shut up now. I have to save my energy well at least that's what everyone keeps telling me to do."
When it was time for Leon to carry Chase piggy-back style, Isidora and I moved and she hunched forward throwing both of her hands behind her back wiggling them. She was signaling me to hope onto her back so I could be carried like Chase, but I protested.
"You will get on my back, Claire." She said trying to be serious, however it came out as joke.
"Will not."
