I awoke at the crack of dawn to get ready for everything. My work was only just beginning. I grabbed a shower with warm water for once since Casie was still asleep. I sighed not knowing if it was more of relief to be away from Casie, or of stress to have to take care of a girl 10 times the brat of her. As an added bonus I got to spend more time with Marty.

“Time for work.” I told him after 30 minutes of chatting.

“Good luck.” He laughed.

I went to the Prince’s room first. Surprisingly I was actually eager to see him. The second he saw me he beamed with happiness. I couldn’t help but smile at him.

“Kaitlynn!” he shouted while running to me. He wrapped his little arms around me as far as they would go.

“Prince Andrew get back here! We aren’t finished yet.” A man sitting in a chair at the table in the corner of the room said. He was dressed nice making me immediately assume that he was Andrew’s butler. On the table were school books and papers.

“I’m done. I don’t want to do anymore.” He stuffed his face into my dress and moaned. I looked down at Andrew and frowned.

“Your highness must do this though! It is important for a Prince to be educated.” The butler strictly stated.

An idea popped into my head.

“How about I help you with your schoolwork? Will you do it then?”

“Really? You’ll help me?” he looked up at me with wide eyes.

“If that’s what it will take to get you to do it” I smiled.

“Oh yes! I will, I will!” he shouted.

“You can’t-“  The butler began to argue.

“Just let me. As long as he gets his work done that’s all that matters right?” I gave an innocent smile. I knew I had won this battle.

The man , clearly irritated with me, left the room, but not without shooting me a deadly look on his way out. I had to choke down a laugh and went over at the table to take the butlers seat.

“Let’s begin.”

An hour later we were still at the table. We were learning economics. I was so shocked that an 8 year old had to learn economics. Who does that to a kid? While I helped him I slowly began to notice that there were something’s in here that even I didn’t know. This was absolutely ridiculous; maybe I could mention this to the King. As I read the book to him I watched his brow crease. It seemed like the words were just flying right over his head. This was a waste of time, he wasn’t learning a thing. I was trying hard to make this fun but no matter what I did nothing would work. I could only imagine how the butler would have made him learn this. Poor Andrew, he is a kid and should enjoy his childhood. Learning should be when he is older and can’t play certain kid things.

“Andrew” I said his name but that didn’t break his deep concentration.

“Andrew” I repeated louder than before. This time it worked and he looked up at me.

“Want to take a break?”

He face glowed with happiness. It didn’t even take a minute before I had a perfect plan for what to do.

“Ok, so here’s what we are going to do.” I leaned in close and whispered in his ear.

“We will go play outside and then when we come back inside we will go to the kitchen and bake cookies.”

Andrew got the biggest grin I had ever seen on his face.

“Follow me but keep quiet.”

Staying out of sight, it didn’t take long for us to reach the door to the gardens. As I opened the door the sweet aromas from the flowers bombarded my nose. They all smelt so good. I took a deep breath and looked back at Andrew who was doing the same.

The sun was shining; a perfect day. Without thinking I blurted.

“Race you to the fountain!” I darted off not hesitating for even a second.

It was kinda stupid of me considering I had never been in the garden before so I had no clue where I was going. Just by examining it I knew that it was a maze with the fountain in the middle. I’m sure Prince Andrew would have this place memorized like the back of his hand. I had no chance but that didn’t make it any less fun for me.

After what seemed like an eternity of nothing but straight running I became exhausted. Corner after corner I was zigzagged through this endless maze. I’m starting to regret this. I couldn’t go back even if I wanted to. I was trapped in here.

Eventually I was going a snail’s pace barely going on. I should have seen this coming. It is a huge garden not a tiny one. Just as I was about to sit down and give up an opening came into view with a beautiful fountain in the middle of it. And sitting on the edge of the fountain was Prince Andrew smiling at me.

“What took you so long?” he teased.

“I got lost” I admitted. He started laughing. Soon we were both cracking up, practically gasping for air.

“Ok, cookie time”

“Yay!!!” he said clearly excited.

We tiptoed through castle and I stopped outside the kitchen doors. I peeked through the window and say all the chefs walking through the dining hall door on the other side of the room. I found a clock and say that it was 1. That means it is lunch time for all the faculty of the castle; impeccable timing.

“Come on.” I whispered while opening the door for him.

We snuck around the kitchen until I found the oven. Hurrying I found cookie dough and put them on the pan.  Luckily they were the kind that baked in only 10 minutes. I didn’t waste a second getting them out and cleaning up the mess.  We gathered up the cookies and dashed through the halls back to Andrew’s room.

After shutting the door we sat down at the table. Just as we were about to take our first bite the door opened. I froze and looked at Andrew. His smile was gone and his face was pale. We would be in so much trouble. He should have been studying not eating cookies. I gathered my courage turned around to find Princess Michelle.  She was clearly just as shocked as we were by the expression on her face.

“Cookies?” she raised her eyebrows.

“Yes...” I hoped she wouldn’t rat us out.

“I want some!!!” Suddenly Princess Michelle was in front of me. I stared at her confused.

“What?” she noticed me staring at her.

“Nothing” I smiled while handing her a cookie. Maybe she was nicer than I thought. And maybe, just maybe, I could have a new friend at the castle soon.
