"You make it sound like something bad will happen."
Jason shrugged. "Sharlton is a town, but every town will always have things that they don't want others to know about. Your grandparents are strongly influential to this town, best to know the ins and outs before getting too involved."
Charla couldn't help but wonder now what was going on with her own family. Then Mr. Rockwell made his way back to the students and called them all over for what they would be doing for class that day.
During the rest of the school day Charla was mostly by herself in her classes, Alex was in some of them and they would talk about the other things in the town, one of which being a large cave by the beach and more of the history of the town itself. Though as school came to an end Alex said something unexpected to her.
"I have to leave early today," she told her. "I received a text from my brother; he needs some help at the shop."
"That's okay, because of yesterday I have a better understanding of the town's layout. See you tomorrow."
Alex left the classroom only to have Jason follow her. "You don't have to lie to her you know." she stopped and looked at him. "She'd be okay with it, the real reason why you're going back home early. Your sister..."
"For once it's not that," she said with a sigh. "My older sister has nothing to do with me heading home early; there are just some things I want to look into that's all."
Jason didn't look too convinced by that statement. "Are you sure?"
Alex gave him a slight smile. "You worry too much sometimes you know that? I'll be fine, if my sister does decide to make an unannounced visit I'll be sure to text you before crashing at your place."
"You know you're always welcome too," he rested a hand on her shoulder. "Just don't be too reckless with whatever it is you're doing."
"Right, later Jason."
Alex rushed all the way home, going as quickly as she could before entering through the back entrance of the house rather than the front of the store. Quickly climbing the stairs she went to her old sister's room. The blinds of the windows were down and the bed made, the room hadn't been lived in for a solid year now leaving the place to look almost deprived of life. Putting her bag down she walked over to the large bookshelf that was completely stuffed to the rafters of medical books, ones of diagnosis, the history of medical care and could be done in the future at some point. But that wasn't what she was looking for.
I know she has it here somewhere... she thought to herself and decided to start from top to bottom. Even with her height Alex still had to go on her toes to look at the top books that rested above the bookshelf. Her sister always had so many books about medical care that all of these could have been in the high school's library or a university. Then after constant scanning of the shelves she found what she was looking for. "There it is!" grabbing the desk's chair she used it to help her get the book she needed. The book itself was thick and it felt pretty heavy, but as she pulled the book out a number of other books tumbled out with it landing on the floor with multiple thuds.
Alex looked at the floor with a displeased look, how did her sister manage to pull out the books she needed without starting an avalanche of books to follow?
"Great," she muttered as she got off the chair and put the book she needed on top of the desk before picking the other books up off the floor and began to put them back on the shelf. Though as Alex put the last book back on the shelf her brother Joshua was there, looking at her from the hallway with a questioning frown.
