I could barely breath as I flopped down on a hay bale. The hallway was silent and not one horse dared to snort for it's grain.

If Mrs Mether was planning on taking clients no doubt could she. And with a step son that looked like Matt. Damn she'd have anyone she'd want.

"Stupid" I muttered as I shoved my head into my hands.

I knew when I excepted Matt into my barn there was something slightly off. Sure he was charming, good looking and a very good rider, but  that wasn't all I needed in a client. No, I needed a loyal and trustworthy one. Matt proved to be none of the last two.

Feeling a hand clasp on my shoulder I jerked my head up. Sharp hazel eyes meet mine with a tad smile.

"Is it too early to say I saw this coming?" Jack carefully moved his butt to the edge of the hay bale. Giggling slightly I shook my head.

"Maybe a little but go ahead" i couldn't look at him as I expected Jack to go ahead and lay those words out on me.

"Nah. I think you've already realized that" with that I turned my attention to Jack. His hands folded in his lap as he starred ahead to the stall door in front of us. A small smile tugged at both of our lips as our eyes met again.

"Sooo no I told you so?" Raising an eyebrow I questioned a dear friend. Jack chuckled slightly  before shrugging.

"I don't need to snop into Matt level. You know...being a jackass and all" I couldn't help but let a giggle escape my lips. Jack's smile grew with that as I slowly sobered up.

"You know what would make me feel better?" Glancing out of the corner of my eyes I spotted Jack raise an eyebrow in question.

"A puppy"

For some time now I've been trying to get my parents to replace our old hound dog. We owned a beagle named Jackson but he was getting up there in age. I think he's probably eleven now and he doesn't do much by sleep on the porch and eat.

So for months I've been whining and begging to get a border collie or blue heeler. But all I've seemed to do is make my parents argue against me for a pup. A much needed cattle dog if I add.

"And what if I got you a puppy?" Jack tried his best to stop his chuckling as he spoke. Smiling wickedly I flung my arms around his shoulders.

"Buy me a puppy and I might as well marry you " my eyes meet Jack's and for a couple seconds me and him just giggled.

That was until our close proximity made us feel an urge most couple feel towards each other. The feeling to lean in and see how things go.

Shaking my head and coughing a fake cough I moved back to my spot.

"So puppy?" I teased. Jack snapped out of his daydream. Smiling tenderly at me as he shrugged again.

"I know what you've been looking at" with that Jack stood up smiling and heading to the barn door.

"See you around May" with that he left.

I couldn't help but let my face muscles pull up my lips. That boy had me smiling like an idiot in just a few minuets and has me all hyped up on puppy mode. Chuckling and shaking my head I stood up ready to work.

If my job taught me anything it was how to get lost in your work. And getting lost in my job is just what I planned on.
