Leaving Aspen | Family Day

It was the morning they were leaving Aspen and Nubia was excited.

She knew she should've listened to her gut and not have went to Aspen.

Nubia was walking down the stairs and she heard Karen talking to someone.

It was Sean.

"Karen I tired, but she's in love her husband."

"Obviously you didn't try hard enough Sean. I want my money back and give Giselle's her money back too."

When Nubia heard Giselle's name, she was hurt and shocked; then she thought, "Maybe that's why she was pushing me to go on a date with him."

"Sorry Karen."

Nubia heard the door close and she walked down the rest of the stairs and pretended like nothing was wrong.

"Are you ready to go Karen?" Nubia cheerfully said with smile.

"Yeah. Here are the keys, you can go put your bags in the car."

3 and a half hours later...

"Okay. Thank you for the trip."

"You had fun?"

"Of course. I'll talk to you guys later."

"Okay bye."

Nubia was working the night shift that night so she started getting ready.

While she was getting ready, her phone rang; it was Giselle.

"Hello."

"Hey. Are you back at my house?"

"Yeah."

"What's wrong?"

"I have to go to work so I'll talk to you later."

"Okay bye. See you next week."

"Okay."

It was the next morning and Nubia was getting off of work.

"Bye Nubia. Are you working tomorrow?"

"Yeah."

"What shift?"

"Morning."

"Okay see you tomorrow."

"Okay bye."

Once Nubia parked her car, she got out, and saw Eric knocking on the door.

"Hi?"

"Hey. I wanted to give you this paper."

"What is this?"

"This is a list of the topics the mentors are going to talk about."

"Okay."

"So how are you Nubi?"

"Okay."

"What did you do for Christmas?"

"I went to Aspen with your parents."

"You went to Aspen with my parents? Why?"

"They ask and I said yes to a free trip."

"Okay. I have to go back to work."

Eric was about to walk away, but Nubia stopped him.

"Work? You got an actual job?"

"Yeah. When or if you come back, I want to help you out."

"Oh," Nubia smiled, "Okay. That's good."

He walked towards her and hugged her and she hugged him back.

Friday (NA Family Day)

Nubia was sitting by Eric with a whole bunch of people sitting in a circle.

Eric could tell she was nervous because her hands were shaking.

"Why are you nervous?"

She looked at him and whispered, "Because you know I hate talking with big crowds."

He just grabbed her hand and kissed which would always calm her down.

"Thank you."

"Your welcome Nubi."

After the mentors asked the other families the questions, it came time for Nubia and Eric to answer the questions.

"Hi what is your name?"

"Nubia."

"And you are his wife?"

"Yeah."

"Okay. Why did you agree to come?"

"I wanted to be here for him and support his sobriety."

"That's good. How do you feel about him being in NA?"

"I'm very happy for him."

It made Eric so happy to hear that.

"Are you willing to help keep him on the right track?"

"Yeah."

"Okay that's good."

After asking a few more questions, they took a break for some snacks.

"I'm happy you came Nubia."

"Really?"

"Yeah. I wanted you to see that I was at least trying... Nubia I want you to come back to the house."

Nubia sighed, "Eric..."

"You are my only support system. I need you."

"Eric I don't think that's a good idea."

"I understand."

They finished the family day and Nubia and Eric were standing in front of Nubia's car.

"So why did my parents invite you to Aspen?"

"I don't know."

"What'd you do?"

"I went skiing, shopped, normal stuff."

"Oh..."

"But I shouldn't have gone."

"Why do you say that?"

"Because Giselle and your parents tried to pay someone to go on a date with me."

"Oh... Did you go?"

"Of course not."

"Okay. I'll see you tomorrow?"

"Yeah."

"Okay. Nubi?"

"Yeah?"

"I love you and I'm sorry."

"I love you too Eric."

They both got in their cars and left.

Eric was very happy that Nubia came because it showed that she still cared and that made him very happy.
