"You okay?" Alex asked.
"Yeah," Charla said quickly with a faint smile. "I... I think I should probably head home now. I'll see you tomorrow at school okay?"
"Sure," Alex said before calling out. "Don't forget about the cars on the streets!"
"I will," Charla said before running off in the direction of where her home must have been. When Charla turned the corner she slowed to a stop, right when she had a number of images flashed in her mind, this time however they were too jumbled and distorted to make anything out. Charla shook her head to stop the images from overpowering her. After a moment or too she caught her breath. "Why now of all times, can't I be normal just for once in my life?" with a defeated breath Charla pushed off the wall and continued walking home.
And upon returning home Charla went to open the door only to realize that it was still locked, what's more she didn't have a key. She remembered Isaac telling her, when they were driving to the house, that it would at least take two whole days until Charla had her own key for the house.
For a brief moment Charla looked in the direction of where Nina's school would possibly be but instead of doing that she went and sat down in a chair at the porch of the house. Putting her bag down next to her Charla then searched through her bag only to pause when seeing the two books that was given to her by Setsuko, the owner of the book store. Her hand hesitated for a moment before she looked at one of the books and flipped it to the back and looked over the synopsis.
Seems interesting enough... Charla thought before opening the book and began to read, as she turned her music down low so not to bother anyone who might be passing by and not like her choice of music.
Charla had just reached the fifth page when she felt someone watching her, when she lifted her gaze her eyes locked with that of Nina's who stared at her with wonder while holding what looked to be takeout food from the local stores in the shopping district. There was a moment of silence between the two girls and Charla spoke. "Welcome home..."
"Dad said it'll take two days to get a new key?" Nina said with surprise as they ate their dinners in the living room with the TV on to the local news. "Geeze, if that was true you should have said something earlier! I normally buy dinner, so I always take longer to get home then the other kids; I would have given you my key."
"I didn't want to bother you." Charla said softly.
Nina looked at her with a miffed expression. "But you wouldn't have, besides you were locked out of the house you could have easily called me or even Dad to get a key."
Charla didn't say anything before looking to the TV.
Nina took the remote and turned up the volume slightly and after listening to the newscaster, he was talking about the murders that had taken place over the past four years. Nina looked to Charla and noticed how the young woman's expression became concerned. "How's Uncle Johan?"
This drew Charla's attention back to Nina. "Huh?"
"You're Dad," Nina rephrased. "Sorry, I'm so used to calling him Uncle since he's your Dad, I'm sure it must be a bit confusing to you about my Dad."
Charla titled her head to the side slightly. "I guess?" before glancing back to the TV. "What about my Dad?"
"How is he? You're Dad's busy with work right?"
"He is, but he did tell me he'd like to come by at some point, I hope that's not imposing on you or anything."
"No that'd be great!" Nina then seemed to be bouncing up and down in her seat in joy. "I've never met Uncle Johan; I've only ever seen pictures of him when Dad was younger, he looks so different from my Dad."
