Just a year left to live. It's unfathomable..impossible to realize and understand. And it pains me that soon enough I'm going to leave Gracie. I try not to think that I'm dying, but it's so hard.

Grace and I are at my doctor's office for my monthly lung checkup, just to see if my cancer is getting any worse or any better. The two of us sit on a couple of the chairs that are lined outside of our doctor's office. We hold hands and patiently wait for the results to be completed.

I notice several doctors and nurses urgently talking near the far side of the room. They glance at us with, oddly, a look of grief. A lump forms in my throat..I already can tell bad news is coming our way.

Dr. Reynolds begins to walk towards Grace and I, shuffling through his papers. He takes  a seat next to the two of us.

"We ran multiple blood tests and scans of your lungs, and they've, for some reason, gotten dramatically worse. I can't explain it..just last month everything was going regularly. I'm so sorry." He explains, a consoling look on his face. A look that had to mean that there's even more bad news.

"So, what does this mean? Will he be okay?" Grace asks, her voice shaking with worry.

"I wish there was more I could do.." He trails off. "But, his lungs are in a terrible condition. He has less time to live than we originally thought."

"How much exactly?" I anxiously hold onto Grace's arm.

The doctor lets out a sorrowful sigh before answering.

"Only a few months."
