they didn't share any more kisses that night until the next morning when they woke up together. that's something connor would never get tired of; waking up tangled up with troye, getting to be their first good morning. seeing them in pajamas and bed head and still thinking they're beautiful.
after getting that first sweet taste of troye's kiss, connor wanted so much more. he wanted to kiss them again and again and again until their worlds narrowed and all they could see was each other.
actually, from where he woke up the next morning, all connor could see was troye. they woke up lying face-to-face, noses just inches apart.
when they both fully woke up a while later, troye stared into connor's eyes as a kind of ask for permission. they ended up kissing again, softly at first as connor murmured a 'good morning.' it was sleepy and lazily paced, but it still sent butterflies to their stomach.
soon enough, connor shifted back against the headboard and pulled troye onto his lap. they were properly straddling him now with one knee on each side of his hips, fingers tangled in his hair. their lips worked together at a quick pace, teeth clashing awkwardly at times. connor's tongue smoothed over troye's lips and they gasp, fingers tightening in his hair.
"oh, god," troye enthused, pulling away from connor and resting their foreheads together. they sat back on connor's lap trying to catch their breath, chest rising and falling rapidly. "where the hell did you learn to kiss like that?"
"i don't know," connor giggled. "you make me want to kiss you like that, you know?"
"you make me want the same thing," troye smiled bashfully, pressing another kiss to the corner of connor's mouth and falling into him. connor wrapped his arms around their waist and stoking their hair.
"you ever been to a picnic?"
-
"here we are!" troye announced, dropping to their knees and spreading their hands over the picnic blanket.
it was a gorgeous spring day like any other that season, but being there with troye made the air a little crisper. they sat together in the shade of a massive magnolia tree in the park, it's white flowers coating the grass and floating on the air like snow.
troye packed strawberries and sugar cookies away in their mother's old picnic basket and brought his journal along, too. they looked gorgeous in their favorite yellow dress. they fed connor strawberries as they talked quietly, occasionally zoning out of the conversation in favor of watching his lips move. there were more than enough cookies for both of them to have their own, but troye insisted on breaking them evenly eavh time. it was peaceful in their secluded little corner, with no one else to bother them- nowhere to go, no one to be, no time and place existed outside of their magnolia tree.
"i've been practicing something," troye said, reaching for their notebook. "i've been writing a bit more recently, which is nice since i haven't had the time."
"what'd you write?" connor asked dreamily, lying down on the red and white checkered blanket.
"just a few free-form bits of nonsense," they explained. "but i heard something and it made me think of you!"
"go on with it then, my angel."
"what is love? 'tis not hereafter. present mirth hath present laughter. what's to come is still unsure. in delay there lies no plenty. then come kiss me, sweet and twenty. youth's a stuff will not endure."
"you're spectacular, you know that?" connor said, staring at troye adoringly. ever word fell from their perfect lips was spoken with fluency and precision. it was like music to connor's ears. "beautiful, gorgeous, intelligent, angelic, baby doll. lovely."
"it's shakespeare," troye whispered, lying down next to connor and wrapping their hands together. "from the twelfth night."
"do you know any more?"
"what is love? it isn't in the future. it's when you're having fun now, you're laughing right now. the future's unsure, and there's no reason to waste time. come kiss me while you're twenty. you won't be young forever."
"is that an invitation?"
"please," troye grinned giddily. they leaned over connor's chest and kissed and kissed and kissed. how did they end up with such a gorgeous boy in their arms?
"can i tell you something crazy?" connor asked as they broke apart.
"anything goes," troye assured.
"i love you, troye sivan."
"i love you too," they said surely. "i love you to the moon and back and around pluto and so much more than you could ever know, connor joel. my connor. i've always loved you and i always will."
"that's my new favorite thing," connor decided, testing the sweet words out on his tongue again. "i love you."
"you were right, this is crazy. love feels crazy and i love you so, so much, my dearest."
"all that shitty stuff you've been through with tristan is over now... you're safe with me, angel. i'd do anything to keep you safe."
"i know, kitty," troye simpered tenderly, stroking connor's hair back from his forhead. "i know."
