(troye is four!!)
"hi, mumma," troye giggled, smoothing down the front of his dress. "sagey and me are playing dress up princesses! come see!"
he bounded back up the staircase, waiting at the top for his mother to follow.
"sagey let me borrow her cinderelly dress," troye explained, tapping the pin in the shape of her head on the sparkling blue top. a plastic necklace of faux peals hung low around his neck, along with extravagant clip-on earrings that were much too big for his five year old head.
"that's very nice, dear," laurelle smiled, reaching the top of the stairs, where troye grabbed hold of her hand and began walking them down the hallway.
"do i make a pretty princess, mama?"
"a very pretty one, baby," laurelle assured, stopping at the doorway of sage's room. troye had pranced in, spinning in the midst of strings of plastic beads and toys that were scattered across the floor.
"did you hear that?" he whispered gently to sage, who was sitting criss-cross on the floor, switching the dresses on her barbie dolls. "mama says we look pretty." he fell to his knees and sat beside sage, pressing a hard kiss to her cheek. she wore a matching pink sleeping beauty dress that had a pin of aroura's face on it, just like troye's.
"we're the prettiest princesses," sage giggled, letting her dolls fall to the floor.
laurelle watched fondly from the door as her kids babbled and giggled. "you sure are... my beautiful little princesses."
