Grace POV

Dad insisted on driving me the first day because of how rainy it is was. He didn't want me to walk.

I had wanted to walk...hide behind out house and never show up.

Clearly that wasn't going to happen.

I fidgeted with my green tights, "dad.."

"Hm?"

"Do I really have to do this?"

"Yes. Gracie..you have been disconnected from people your age for too long you need this."

No. I need that cute cottage where no one will ever find me.

He slowed at a light to face me and say something I was sure was encouraging but I was too distracted to notice.

There was a man crossing the street in a rather expensive looking suit. Slicked back black hair

I swallowed hard.

Slowly the man turned to me and waved.

Sharped tooth grin taking over his handsome face.

"...dad..that man."

My dad looked up and out to the street. "What man Gracie bear, no ones there."

My heart launched into my throat.

He's standing right there, right in the middle of the sidewalk. "Huh...he uh must have left. He had a cool hat I thought you would like.."

My dad laughed, "I guess it wasn't meant to be."

The light turned green.

The man stepped out of the way, our eyes connecting as I passed him.

Its official.. I am really truly insane.

I held my books to my chest as i hurried down the hall, trying to not stare at anyone.

I had thought girls on the internet dressed the way they did as a gimmick, like famous people do.

I cannot fathom why they feel the need to show so much skin in real life.

Do they have any idea how dirty the chairs here are not to mention other public places? And they just sit there practically naked butt on it?

I don't see the fun in that, and it leaves nothing to the imagination.

Im sure men like a bit if mystery.

I know I wouldn't mind if they would button up their shirts a bit more.

This is a school.

But seeing as I had no intention of making friends it really shouldn't bother me.

It was just..surprising i guess.

I sighed heavily, pushing my way into the library for study session.

It was almost completely empty.

...I wasn't sure I was so surprised at this point.

But there was some kid with his face buried in a book.

He looked up as I sat down. He had dark circles and greasy hair.

...and a nasty bruise on his jaw.

My lips parted in surprise, "are you okay?"

He blinked at me, "fine."

My brows furrowed, "you don't look fine, your jaw.."

"Oh...its pretty normal for me."

"It shouldn't be...i have an ice pace in my lunch. Ill give it to you."

He grumbled a thank you as i started to trifle through my bag.

"Oh its no problem at all, i hope it doesn't hurt too bad...." I had to lean over the table to hand him the ice pack, pausing when I noticed his book.

It was old...and sort of creepy.

"I didn't know our school carried such old books."

He pulled into his lap under the table, "it doesn't...O brought it from home."

I attempted a smile, "cool...well i hope you feel better."

Neither of us spoke to one another again. But I didn't fail to notice the sheer amount of shadows I saw from the corner of my eye..they were practically engulfing him. I tried just once to get a better look, but as always they disappeared.

I gave up after that.

The shadows were shadows. Everyone had them in varying levels.

He was just...a lot more.

It never seemed to effect a persons health if they had more shadows.

My parents shadows vary from barely there to a few while when i see the mail man outside the window its anywhere from a lot to a ton.

People were just different i suppose, but even children have shadows. Normally no more than just a spec you can barely even see.

I like to think they connect us.

It makes them less creepy.

The boys appeared in the corner of my eye again.

Well a tiny tiny bit less creepy...they are still pretty creepy..
