Chapter. 04 (Slight Edit)

Start from the beginning

Without a word Alex moved closer and hugged Charla surprising her even more. "How stupid are you?" Alex asked in a soft voice. "Don't go and tell me that crap with a smile in your face, you make it sound like you're going to die." When she released a breath she moved away with a slight upset expression. "You really have been through some shit huh? I just thought you were a bit spacey and awkward. God... I feel like an ass now."

"It's not your fault. I never said anything."

"And that's fine; you don't have too but..." Alex smiled slightly. "If you do want to talk more about that kind of stuff you can to me, even if it's at a dumb time."

Charla looked at her with a half-smile. "You sure about that?"

She nodded. "I'm positive about that." then recollection came to her eyes. "Oh right, I meant to ask. Have you called your uncle yet? You should at least let him know."

With a sigh Charla covered her eyes with her arm. "I don't want to bug him about this. Besides he's a detective and probably swamped with work. I'd feel bad for making him worry over something so small."

"You should still tell him." the two looked as the curtain moved back and Jack stood there with arms folded over his chest. "He is your family and he'd probably feel worse that you didn't at least give him a call to tell him about it."

"What the hell Jack!?" Alex stood up in anger. "You're eavesdropping on us now? Don't you have a job to do?"

He looked to Charla. "You're looking at it; I have to make sure that you are at least fit to send home. I don't think it'd be a good idea to go to class after what just happened."

"But..."

Jack's expression became stern. "It's best to be safe, especially with something like this. Look, I don't know all the details but I can grasp that this whole fainting thing is due to whatever condition you may have sustained. Regardless I'd be failing at my job if I can't look at you properly before sending you home." he rubbed the back of his neck. "Besides, it's only the first day of school you won't miss much." He moved over to Charla and took out a small light and shined it both of her eyes, looking at the way the pupils reacted before looking at her facial complexion and then moved back. "Could you stand up for me for a moment?"

Charla did so, standing perfectly straight and then looked to the nurse.

"You're not feeling nauseous or dizzy?"

She shook her head.

"Okay," he said as he had her sit back down on the bed and went over to his desk. "I'll write up a note to give to your uncle and tomorrow when you do come to school I want you to come see me first before going to class."

"You don't have to go that far," Charla told him. "This is normal for me."

"Normal or not I'd like to think I can be competent at my job, so you must come to me first thing tomorrow at school. Understand?" Charla felt a little taken aback at how Jack had changed in a matter of minutes, the guy seemed to have a laid back attitude but when it came to people's health he took that above anything else.

Charla merely nodded silently and Jack seemed to give a smile in relief. "Good, now there's something I need to take care of so you at least have to wait before I can send you home."

When Jack left the nurses office Alex seemed to let out a tired breath.

"Wow he was really persistent with this, guess he was super concerned about you." she smiled at Charla. "Don't worry about it though; he's like that with anyone when it comes to a person's health. Well, at least he is. I know a number of others wouldn't really care since to them it's just a job."
