"Speaking of which I think that's—"
The door burst open and Alex came through. "Hey Jack! What's Charla's condition? Is she okay now or..." she stopped when Jack pointed to where Charla was. She turned to see Charla and moved to her quickly. "Are you okay?" she asked.
"I'm alright; it was just a fainting spell, nothing too serious."
Alex went to speak only to stop and look back to the nurse whiling giving a narrow stare before pulling a curtain over so he couldn't watch them.
Though Jack merely shook his head, did she really think doing that would make their conversation private?
Alex then pulled a chair close to the bed and sat down. "Are you sure that you're alright? I know you said your fine but..."
"It happens sometimes, along with having chronic headaches, there's not much I can do about it. Though the fainting doesn't happen that often it I wasn't expecting it."
"Is all that linked to your condition?"
Condition? Jack frowned and began writing notes.
Charla nodded. "Yes, but like I said it doesn't happen often. It might have just happened due to the change of environment or something similar of that nature."
Alex just frowned at her. "You really are taking this well,"
Charla lay back down on the bed. "It's not like panicking will solve anything. This is just something that's a part of me now. And as much as I dislike it there isn't much I can do."
"What about getting another doctor's opinion on this? Is that possible?"
"It wouldn't really change anything..." Charla then turned her head to look at her. "Um, I'm sorry I worried like that. It's my fault for not warning you about this."
"Hey even if you did I'd still freak out, it's only natural to worry about a friend..." she stopped and noticed how Charla looked almost embarrassed. "Why are you blushing?"
Her face turned even more red. "Oh! I'm... blushing?"
"Duh,"
Charla laughed nervously. "Sorry, I don't mean to weird you out. It's just... I hadn't had a friend in... four years now."
Alex looked at her with an arch brow. "Dude, you're joking right?"
She shook her head. "No sadly I'm not. I never had many friends because of all the political work that my Mom did when I was little. What's more after the accident all the friends I did have, just... went away. I'd been on my own pretty much ever since." Charla smiled sadly. "My father knew, and wanted to do something but wasn't sure what. Not that I blame him, what's more the previous school I went too. It was less then kind, all the people there just seemed to care about themselves and one uping each other or humiliating someone else for fun. Some knew about my condition, making fun of me, calling me a freak. Some even saying I should have died like my brother. How messed up is that?"
Jack paused in his writing and looked back at the closed off area with a surprised expression and recalled some of the information that he had received about Charla and the fact of the accident caused some type of injury to her and the death of her brother.
Alex didn't say anything; hell she didn't know what to say even.
"But not all of them were like that, even still they left me alone, I'm not sure if it was out of fear or pity for what happened to me but it's just something I had to deal with. I became used to it, so much so that I rarely talked while in school." Even while saying that Charla still smiled warmly. "It's awkward and strange telling someone this; it's probably why I suck at responding to others around me. I need to work on that..." When noticing Alex's perpetual silence, she then added. "So, I'm really glad to have met you," Charla smiled. "You know?"
