So I'm eventually going to get into part-by-part things, but I'm going to start with characters. Of course, we need a hero, generally the main character: this cat saves the day, solving the problem and eventually ending the plot, thus ending the story. Most fanfiction is told in this cat's pov.
So obviously, you must NOT mess this character up. We don't want a cliche cat! NOBODY needs another Firestar, Dovewing, Lionblaze. We don't need to relive the books, either. Your characters and plot should be original. Or, some fanfictions can put a twist on a cliche, and it can be very interesting to read if you do it right.

Anyway, onto our hero. Most heroes have some sort of prophecy to fulfill. This isn't necessary, and sometimes it's nice for our hero to be unexpected. Sometimes they save the day by chance? There are also books with multiple heroes, such Jay an Lion in Power Of Three. Speaking of Power Of Three, it's always surprising when one of the heroes turns out to be a villain, such as what (kind of) happened with Hollyleaf. Then we had an unexpected hero, Dovewing.

Don't just copy from the books, though.

Stereotypical hero:
(Try to stray from these for a better character.)
· Light pelt colors such as pale gray or ginger, golden, white (Jayfeather, Lionblaze, Dovewing, Leafpool, etc.)
· Colors that stand out like bright or dark ginger, or blue-gray (Firestar, Bluestar, Squirrelflight, Sparkpaw, etc.)
· green or blue eyes (Firestar, Jayfeather, Bluestar, etc.)
· Shy and quiet (Basically every medicine cat oc..) or happy and annoying (Cinderpelt, Squirrelflight, Graystripe, etc.)
· No flaws (HELLO Lionblaze, Dovewing, Firestar)
· Has some special quality like a disability (Crookedstar, Cinderpelt, Jayfeather, Briarlight)
· SHE-CAT (Normally in fanfiction. Bluestar, Dovewing, Squirrelflight, Ivypool, Leafpool, etc.)
· Prefixes like Rose, Snow, Cloud, etc.
· This is obviously not all of them, comment some and I'll add them!

Not stereotypical hero:
(Try to add more characters like this, but not too many.)
· Darker pelt colors like dark gray, brown, or black
· Or multicolored cats like black and white, calico/tortie, or tabby and white
· Yellow, gold, hazel, amber, or brown eyes
· Sad, depressed, or anxious personalities.
· flaws like: grumpiness, anxiety, obsessions, mood swings, clumsiness, or childishness.
· Could have a disability, but don't do this too often. Some that I would suggest are: Mutism, deafness, inability to scent things (idk what that's called?), or some sort of chronic illness.
· TOM (Please, for once you guys..)
· Prefix like Beetle, Spider, Dark, Badger, etc.
· This also is not all of them, comment suggestions!

So, there's your hero. They should capture my attention! If you are unsure about your character, go ahead and search "warrior cat oc ratings" on Wattpad. My oc ratings are NOT open, but plenty of them are. It always helps to get someone else's opinion on your character.
