Isaac then noticed how Charla suddenly looked ill. "Are you alright?"
"Uh... yeah I..." then something popped into her head. "Actually..."
The smell of chicken and curry filled the air in the home of Isaac and Nina, as Charla worked in their kitchen with her hair pulled back into a ponytail as her hoodie was now resting over the chair where she'd sit for dinner.
"Sorry that I don't cook." Isaac said. "Man I feel like a lousy house guest, you just got here and now you're cooking us dinner. Feel's kind of wrong..."
"It's okay, I like cooking anyway. I'm just glad we could get all of this stuff at the shopping district."
"I'm sure they were just happy that a new face came to buy what they had. All of them are local businesses run by the families who own the stores."
"I thought we were going to do burgers..." Nina said in a dejected tone as Charla brought over the food to them Nina then looked to her father. "How come we aren't?"
"Ah, well..."
"I'm sorry Nina," Charla said. "I'm just not a fan of burgers from that place. But I like stake, and if you'd like if there's a place that makes stake I can take you there think of it as an apology for the burger place, my treat."
"I do! I do! But stake is expensive are you sure about doing that?"
"I've saved up money so it's fine." Charla said with a happy-go-lucky smile.
Nina smiled. "Okay!" but then looked at her with confusion. "But wait, how come you like stake but not burgers?"
Charla's gaze shifted away and Isaac soon grasped the reason. "Hey..." his phone suddenly rang with a sigh he got up from his seat pulled out his cell and answered. "Yeah? Okay, where is it? Got it, be there soon." when he hung up Charla could clearly hear him say. "Good thing I chose to skip the booze..." before going to grab his coat. "Sorry I have to go wrap up my stuff and put it in the fridge I'll eat it later. I might be back late so lock the doors."
Nina looked disappointed. "Okay..."
Isaac opened the door, the sound of heavy rain could be heard from outside, he then called out. "Nina, what'd you do with the laundry?"
"I brought it in already!" she called back to him.
"Okay, I'm heading out."
When the door closed Charla looked over to Nina with a slight worried expression. "Must be hard,"
"It's okay," Nina said as she ate the curry. "It's always like this; my Dad's a detective so he's always on call. So he's always out late."
Charla was quite for a moment. "I can relate to that a bit. My parents were busy with work a lot so it'd just be me a lot of the time. Though my Dad would sometimes sneak away from work and make me curry for dinner. He always made it because he knew I liked it so much."
Nina looked at the dinner then back at her. "What about your Mom?"
Charla merely shook her head. "Her work's always been important to her."
"Huh..." Nina then grabbed the TV remote and turned it on to the news before saying. "They're talking about that crazy guy again."
Charla looked to the TV and saw her home city on the news, and how those on the news wondered if the person behind it would ever be caught.
