We spent a few more hours training in the field until the sun set behind the trees, Sterling didn't find the time to turn on the overhead lights, so the only source of illumination we had was from Gold after using his powers.
"Well, I'm beat." Sterling said, stretching his arms towards the night sky; he yawned for extra effect.
"You didn't do anything." Gold scoffed, "you only watched."
"Watching is doing something." He retorted, "and I'm tired of it."
"Whatever." Gold rolled his eyes.
"Glowworm," Sterling clapped his hands together before Gold could take off, "you're on babysitting duty tonight."
"Babysitting- what?" Gold spun around, confusion was written all over his face.
"You didn't ask him?" I hissed.
Sterling shrugged, "I forgot. Besides, I didn't think you'd kick me out after one mistake."
"One? Sterling. Just a few days ago I caught you modeling my clothes." I fumed.
"Sterling?" Gold asked. Sterling and I whipped our heads around, wide eyed. "That's your name?" Before I could react, pain erupted from the back of my head and I flew forward, my hands drenched in mud from a puddle formed by the melting snow.
Sterling just slapped me, barely holding back his strength too.
"You're just like your brother!" He groaned, lowering his arms.
"And now I know what he felt when you smacked him- OW!"
"Guys." Gold said.
"Well," Sterling huffed, "you deserved it." he crossed his arms.
"Guys." Gold repeated.
"Well," I paused, searching for a smart comeback, "that hurt!" I failed.
"Guys." Gold sighed.
"Good." Sterling smirked.
"Guys!" Gold suddenly snapped; he was slightly glowing.
We both looked at him, "What?" Sterling and I hissed; Gold took a step back.
"Who am I babysitting?" he asked; Sterling's face relaxed into a smile, he pulled me into a tight hug.
"This whittle baby right here," he said in a kids' voice, giving me a noogie.
Gold blinked. "Why?" I escaped from Sterling's' death grip.
"Because we have reason to believe Cyrus is trying to kill her and because she has anger issues and gets very, very angry at night, so mad she'll kick you just for sleeping, and only god himself knows what she might do if left alone." He explained, I elbowed him in the stomach.
"Wait, what?" Gold asked, shaking his head.
Sterling sighed, "Because she has anger-"
"No, the thing before that."
"Right, yeah. I knew that." Sterling stated, I rolled my eyes, "We think Cyrus is going to try to kill her."
"Why do you think that?"
"Because he already sent someone to-" Sterling lowered his head and he squeezed his knuckles until they turned white, "murder her brother, and she was attacked a few weeks ago, presumably by one of his henchmen."
"Her brother?"
"Orbit."
"Oh."
"Yeah."
"So you want me to watch her?" Gold asked, "tonight?"
"Yes," Sterling looked at me; I scowled, "could be for a few days." He glanced at me once more, "maybe one week... A month at the most."
"Um," Gold dug the toes of his dark blue boots into the dirt and traced circles, "what if I have plans?"
Sterling snorted, "you have plans?"
Gold began glowing, "Well, no- not yet anyway."
"Then you're okay to babysit." Sterling patted him on the back before marching off towards the building that resembles a haunted house. Gold stood with his mouth agape, preparing to say something else, but he turned to face me instead, he flashed a sheepish smile, two dimples popping up on both of his cheeks.
"Do you want to walk, or would you rather fly?"
Sorry if information about what happens in high school is wrong.. I'll be there next year though, but it'll only be grade 10 so it still wont be exact... But hey, if superheros can exist in this world, why not errors in the school curriculum?
Speaking of school, I was in science class, not paying attention at all because it's French and that's ugh, and I thought of an amazing way to write one of the last chapters!!
I hate my life. (Yes I'm being dramatic, but in this situation, it's called for.)
I edited a few of the first chapters. I was very proud. Was. The document where I wrote it in is completely blank but when I highlight, the words are still there, only invisible. I've tried everything to fix it, but nothing's working. UGH.
