“He’s waiting for you.” She said with the most sincere smile on her face. Taking a deep breath I stepped to the door. Pushing it open I let my eyes slowly meet his.
“Hi.” Hi? Really that’s all I could come up with? Stepping inside I let the door close behind me as I made my way to the empty chair next to his bed. He watched my progress across the room. When I was finally settled in my chair he grinned.
“You are so adorable when you’re nervous.” That made me blush even harder. At this he laughed. I waited for him to finish before I spoke again.
“I’ve missed you.” I whispered. Nodding he cut his eyes to my hand then back to my face. Without another thought I reached over and took his hand in mine.
“She said you’d be waiting for me.” He said. Frowning I cocked my head to the side.
“Who?” Grinning he pointed to the ceiling.
“She never introduced herself but I have a feeling it was your mom.” Did he say my mom? Nodding he leaned back into his pillows and closed his eyes.
“She said that I needed to take care of her Micahia.” Tilting his face to me he let his eyes open.
“I promised her I would… she then sent me back so I could fulfill my promise…. She’s beautiful… I wish I got to meet her when she was alive.” I didn’t know what to say. He’d met my mother. She’d asked him to take care of me. He knew my legal name!
“Um… about the name…” Raising a brow he gave me a naughty look.
“Oh I think it’s a beautiful name… Micahia. I think I’ll start—“Slapping my hand over his mouth I shook my head.
“No one calls me that… no one but my mother.” I held my hand there until I was sure Declan wouldn’t start on my name again.
“Fine…. I won’t call you that but if I ever need to hold something against you, know that little bit of information is what I’ll use.” As we talked I kept pushing down this overwhelming feeling of gooey happiness I felt. I couldn’t believe it. He was here… he was awake…. He was back. My eyes kept roaming across his face taking in every little detail. He needed to shave and he needed a haircut. Though the hospital gown wasn’t atrocious on him he needed to get into some regular clothes. I didn’t want to see him all hospitally anymore. I wanted my Declan back. I didn’t just want my Declan so I could sneak off and be alone with him. I wanted to stop the hiding. I wanted to tell everyone. Clearing my throat I sat up in my chair and squeezed his fingers. Looking at me Declan waited until I found the words I wanted to use.
“So I’ve been thinking… you know how we said we’d wait until we were away from here… to come out. I was… I was thinking… why wait.” At first Declan didn’t say anything. He lay there watching me as I watched him in return. When he didn’t say anything I felt my nervousness building.
“I don’t care about what everyone says I want to be with you and if I have to endure ugly stares and whispers then so be it. This has opened my eyes to a lot and I don’t want to waste a moment with you thinking about what other people will say or trying to come up with plans to hide our relationship because I don’t want to hide our relationship. You are the best thing that has ever happened to me, you’re like my number one and I don’t want to hide us from the world anymore so I figure fuck it let’s go for it and see where it goes and—“ Now it was me with the hand over my mouth. I watched Declan try his best not let laugh in face but he was losing that battle.
