“Can I get some wet towels, cold water and a small fan?” Harper asked someone. I couldn’t see anything but her shirt. It was then I realized I was lying back on the floor and my head was cradled in her lap.

“Uncle Mike… breathe kay.” Seven said. I blindly reached out for him. Taking my hand he squeezed my fingers.

“Kay.” I whispered. I felt when he laid his head on my stomach. I couldn’t turn my head to see the rest of the room. I didn’t want to see the sorrow in their eyes. I didn’t want to acknowledge that there was a slim chance that Declan would indeed die.

“Don’t cry Mikey.” Harper whispered kissing my temple. This was so fucking unfair. I’d just found him…. I’d just… I loved him…. I loved him so much it hurt. Why would they take him away from me? What had I done to deserve this?

‘Don’t cry Micahia.’ I knew this voice. There was only one person who called me by my full name. I hadn’t heard it in a long time.

‘Mom…’ I felt a smile brush against my skin.

‘Don’t cry baby… everything will work out for the better.’ Slowly I turned my head from Harper’s shirt to see a beautiful glowing light floating behind her. The image of my mom’s face appeared before my eyes.

‘How is everything going to work out?’ I asked still amazed I could actually see my mom. I felt her run her fingers against my skin for a moment then an image Declan and I kissing under a sparkling glittery ball.

‘Everything happens for a reason Micahia… don’t give up on him… promise me.’ She started to disappear from my sight. Quickly I promised her I wouldn’t give up. I could feel sleep pulling at my consciousness. Everything that had happened was starting to wear on me. I felt like my bones were replaced with cooked pasta. Slowly my lids slid close as I felt a sense of peace envelope me.

“Micah?” I heard Harper but couldn’t find the strength to respond. I was too tired to say anything.

“Bryant, Sean help me.” McClane said. I felt my body being lifted from the floor then placed on the sofa. Someone brushed my hair back from my face and a blanket was pulled over me. I was almost gone when I heard her voice again.

                ‘Don’t give up on him.’

Megan’s POV:

This is the second week. There’s been no change in Declan’s condition and it’s scaring me. Dr. Adams said the longer he stays in the coma the more unlikely he’ll come out of it. When news hit the school to say everyone was shocked would be an understatement. Though Declan’s secret was still safe no one could understand why Todd wanted to kill Declan. Sean said it was his jealousy. He wanted to have Micah to himself and he saw Declan as an obstacle. It’s been torture to get through a day. You couldn’t go down a hall without spotting some random girl crying her eyes out over a picture of Declan.

Get well posters and signs hung everywhere. There was no happiness anywhere. On the third day everyone started to wear nothing but black… everyone but Katlin. She wore her trademark slut and I probably would have cared if I wasn’t constantly thinking about Declan. I sat in the library not paying attention to my work. I couldn’t concentrate. It’s not like if I didn’t finish the work it would bring my GPA down. Closing my books I started to pack my bag when her voice reached my ears.

“I don’t know why everyone’s still sulking over this Declan guy. So he almost died who cares?”  She said loud enough for the entire library to hear. A couple girls looked up from their own work to glare in Katlin’s direction. She was walking with her lackey’s. They didn’t wear black but they didn’t wear their normal clothes either. They mostly had on grays and blues.

“Katlin, Declan was a nice guy… he didn’t deserve this—“ One of the brunette lackey’s started but was cut off by Katlin’s glare.

“There is no need to dwell on him. Life is still gonna go on without him, geez… we should be focusing on the prom king and queen elections instead of some obscure guy who wasn’t even popular enough for me to know of him.” Katlin hissed in her direction. I could see a look of disgust on the other lackey’s face. Stepping away Vivian started for the exit.

“Where do you think you’re going?” Katlin yelled after her. The new librarian looked in her direction.

“I’m not Mrs. Lieberman, young lady. I grew up boxing. If you don’t want to taste my fist first hand I suggest you quiet down.” She said from the checkout counter. Swallowing hard Katlin started to follow Vivian out as did the other lackey’s.  I didn’t want to miss what she’d say so I left my bag and scurried out behind them.

“Vivian!” Katlin yelled as they entered the hall. Turning around Vivian’s hand whipped across Katlin’s face. Shocked Katlin stood there gripping her reddening cheek.

“He’s not some hobo from the street. He’s not some obscure guy that no one knows about. Declan Crawford is cute, funny, sweet and kind. He’s the kind of guy I want to marry someday because I know he’ll treat me like a princess. You may not know about him but trust me when I say everyone else who fucking matters knows about Declan. I can’t believe I wasted my high school career looking up to a pompous arrogant spoil bitch like you. I can finally say without a shadow of doubt I don’t want to be your friend anymore. You can keep the popularity, you can have the status because if I have to be like you then I don’t want it. I rather be obscure with Declan than repugnant like you.” With that Vivian stormed away. The crowd she’d gathered during her tirade watched as the other lackey’s took their cue from Vivian and left Katlin standing there alone.  Slowly the hall emptied leaving me with Katlin.

“It’s funny huh?” I said from behind her. Turning to me she glared at the smugness on my face.

“What’s funny?” She spat. Looking her up and down I placed my hand on the library door.

“Even though Todd did all these awful things you’re still the most hated bitch in the school.” Giving her a big smile I let myself back into the library.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Micah was shot and lived to see tomorrow.... YAY!! I know you're probably wondering what happened to his mother. Her name was Helena Phillips and she too was a State Trooper. One of 8 females in the county. During a tornado she risked her life to save a handicap woman and her children. The woman and her children lived but at the expense of her life. She was given the highst honor for the selfless act. She died at the age of 37. I wrote her in because I do believe the spirits of family member do come back to keep watch over us. I swear I see my grandmother and father sometimes. It maybe my imagination but I don't care. It's makes me happy knowing they are there. Hope you enjoy the chapter. Let me know what you think.
