"But then I stopped allowing myself to dream, because it was more painful to long for things and never get them than to deal with whatever was in front of me."

After hours of walking the perimeter, keeping to her own dreadful thoughts, she scanned the horizon searching for anything out there that would catch her attention and give her something true to hold on to. A slight glint of a metal-like reflection caught her eye, maybe a couple miles away. Even if it was only something that could just be a trick of the light and the heat, she was bound to figure out what it was. Without announcing her leave to anyone, she slipped to the outside side of the wall and briskly climbed down. Without taking her eyes off the glint, she walked- then ran towards it.

As she got closer she could see it was about the size of a door, almost invisible to the naked eye - something that could be mistaken for distant heat waves.

Almost an hour of walk-running from the wall to this spot, she was about arms distance from the haze. The sun beaming down at her like a colorless watered down lemonade with no soul... almost how she felt.

Tris stepped forward and her hand grazed upon a cold, slick surface. She placed her other hand on the door-like structure, and felt for a knob any some sort of indication that it opened. Her bare hands scanned over what seemed like a more rough surface shaped like a square. Too afraid to take her hands off, for it could be her mind playing tricks, she gently pressed the shape and what seemed like a hissing sound of air pressure locking, the door clicked open.

Tris made her bed and slung a small pack over her shoulder heavy with a canteen of water meant to last a few days, a hand gun, a few knives, and couple rations of food.

She didn't know what to expect... but she knew she had to be prepared.

She tidied up as if she had never step foot in the room, and strode out without looking back. She didn't want to say goodbye. To her, goodbye meant a mere "I'll see you later," and she didn't plan on coming back.

Honestly, she didn't plan anything.

As she walked through the dank hallways, she didn't try to hide. She wasn't sneaking out. She was leaving.

Four turned a corner and what should of made Tris anxious, instead gave her a new-found courage, "Tris..." he spoke, eyeing the pack along Tris' back.

She looked at him, straight into his eyes, almost as if toying with his soul, "The people I thought I knew aren't who I thought they were," she said.

"Beatrice, what is wrong?" Tris was contemplating on whether or not to talk to him about it. It. She didn't even know what "it" was.

As the door opened, a bright metallic light, similar to the one she saw when she came out of the simulation, blinded her vision. Once her pupils dilated correctly, a hallway enough to hold maybe four people without being cramped, came before her eyes. The hallway led to another door which harbored a bright blue screen to the right of it. Tris walked towards the door emotionless, for she was too anxious for what was to come. As she neared the door, it spoke, "This is an unexpected surprise. What brought you here to check-in so early Mr. Eaton?" Tris didn't know what to think or say, but one command was beckoning to her. Run.

She thought not. It was something he needed to tell her, not the other way around.

She started, "It's nothing Tobias."

He said worriedly, "It's something. I know you well enough."

That angered her, "You don't know me at all. You've just watched me. Watched me suffer and die for a cause worth nothing. I'm tired of all the lies. I'm tired of you."

"Beatrice!" He yelled, but she walked out of the now empty room.

Once Tris was out of earshoy, Tobias tapped on a communication device by his breast pocket, and regretfully muttered, "She's on her way."

Thinking to himself, "I'm sorry Tris... but this has to be done... even if it means you hating me."

***

SOOOO that was intense. Where do you think Tris is going? Why do you think she is reacting to him like this? How do you think their relationship is working? Do you ever think they'll be the same? What about what was behind the door?
