December 1st for me and mom meant putting up the Christmas tree.

We went to see what trees Emily had this year.  We got our tree from Emily every year.

Emily was a cute little lady in her 50s.

She never got married and she lived all alone.  The trees she sold were basically her life.

For some reason, mom and I got the idea to invite Emily to come decorate the tree with us.

It was fun, and I wondered why we'd never spent more time with Emily.

She told us all about how she grew up in Texas.

She told us all about her eleven siblings.

She told us about the live nativity her family used to act out every Christmas Eve.

After she left, I realized she'd left an ornament for us.

It said

"Hope"

Emily,
Will you please try and make it to my funeral? It will be near the end of December of this year.

R.S.V.P. to my mother.

Goodbye,
Caitlyn

P.S. Thank you for all the trees you've given us over the years. They really are what made our Christmas.
