Chapter 13

"Come on, Daniella! We've got a long day ahead of us!"

Groaning weakly, I rolled over on my side and opened my eyes. Beads of sunlight shone through the window and I squinted at my mother, who sped past me and began digging clothes out of her suitcase.

"What's the time?" I asked groggily.

"It's ten o'clock," my mother responded.

I gave out a small sigh as I propped myself on my elbow. "Whatever."

I threw the covers off me and swung my legs over the bed, grabbing an article of clothes and padding towards the bathroom. After claiming a short shower and brushing my teeth, I stepped out of the bathroom and attempted to tame my wild hair by shoving it into an elastic band.

"Come on," my father ushered me, opening the door wider. Grabbing my camera off the nightstand, I walked behind my family towards the elevator. We shuffled into the elevator and I leaned against the wall, gazing down at the ground. Then, the elevator door pinged and I found myself slowly trudging after my family.

We were instantly bombarded with Lauren's family, who induced a heated debate about whether we should visit Chinatown or the Opera House.

Instead of interjecting, I let them argue while I stood against the wall and fiddled with my camera. I looked up from my camera and my gaze fell on Christopher, whose eyes were pasted to his phone.

Rolling my eyes, I pushed myself off the wall and followed my family outside. In the end, my mother won the debate and decided that we'd visit Chinatown today.

No surprise there.

In all honesty, I couldn't care less where we were going. Every single inch of Sydney was beautiful, therefore I had no say in it. "Do you guys come here every year?" I asked Christopher, deciding to ignore his rules.

"Yeah," he murmured, keeping his gaze ahead of him.

I simply nodded in response and continued walking towards a cab. Slipping into the backseat, I stared out the window all the way towards Chinatown. My mother's incessant chatter with my father who was sitting in the passenger seat managed to give me a slight headache.

Very soon, we reached Chinatown and I climbed out of the car, clutching my camera. My eyes wandered around the busy streets that were bustling with tourists, us included. "Come on," my mother waved me over, galled. Snapping out of my reverie, I approached my family and gazed around at the stores.

"I feel like I'm in South East Asia," I commented while gazing around at the markets.

"No one cares," Christopher mumbled from beside me.

Resisting the urge to retaliate, I ignored him and halted at a jewellery store. Our mother's were gushing over a few bracelets while our father's stood to the side with flat looks on their faces. I began inspecting the jewellery, eyeing a few necklaces and rings.

"This is dumb," Christopher muttered, picking up a necklace and wrinkling his nose.

"No, it isn't."

"Yes, it is," he argued. Ignoring him, I picked up the same necklace that he lifted and inspected ait.

"Do you want this one?" I joked.
