Night was falling quickly, and Cas had nowhere to sleep. Figuring that he would be safe higher up in a tree than on the ground where a mermaid might be able to get to him, he picked a large knobby tree that stood on the outskirts of a wood that seemed to envelope the island. Awkwardly hoisting himself up, he positioned himself so that he couldn't fall off the thick branch.

Castiel lay awake for hours, trying to get some rest, but sleep would not come. Once or twice he thought he heard something moving below him, but he shrugged it off as his imagination.

Cas finally began dozing off, only to be awakened by a loud screeching sound coming from the direction of the tide pool. Listening hard, Cas could hear voices mixed in with the screeching. Someone was pleading with someone else.

"Please no! Please I'm sorry, I didn't know!"

A deeper voice replied, "Non potes hic esse. We have warned you."

 "I don't understand! Please, NO!"

Blood curdling shrieks ensued. Cas shivered slightly in fear. The shrieks suddenly stopped. Cas didn't even want to think about what had happened to that person.

 He couln't fall back asleep.
