When you're gone, Oikawa feels empty.

As his palm meets the rough surface of yet another volleyball, he thinks about how you would usually be here standing next to Iwa-chan, watching his every move and cheering him on when his steps faltered. You would be there to tell him he was overworking himself, and you would be there to drag him home when he wouldn't listen.

You are not there today.

You won't be coming.

You won't be there tomorrow, or the day after.

Oikawa wonders if you're at the library. You were always an avid reader, after all. Now that you weren't busy with everything he asked for, maybe you would be happier. Freer.

He misses the next ball, and it smacks down on the floor in front of him, rebounding and hitting him in the face.

Oikawa stands there, silent, feeling his nose ache. There's definitely going to be a bruise tomorrow, but he doesn't care.

If you were here, you would have hurried over and, eyes wide, examined his injuries. He would play it up and ask for you to kiss it better. You always did.

Oh, god. He missed you so much.

You hadn't even said goodbye.
