'Come on Declan, snap out of it!'
"Yeah I heard about State, congrats." I said. Looking up he let a smile touch his lips.
"Thanks. I heard you got in too. Full ride soccer and academic scholarship." I felt the start of a blush coming on.
'Oh please for the love of Judas don't blush!' Scratching my head I let my eyes dart away.
"Thank you... so do you want to try on the belly?" Holding up his hands Micah started to laugh.
"Um... no thanks. But feel free to get your pregnant on." We both started laughing as the bell rang for dismissal. Collecting our things we walked out together talking out school in the fall.
"Heard we had to spend our freshman and sophomore years in the dorms." He said stopping at his locker. Leaning on the other side I frowned. I really planned on having my own apartment.
"Is it mandatory?" I asked. Nodding Micah pulled out his literature book and stuff it in his gym bag. I felt myself frowning even more.
"What's with the face?" Looking up from my shoes I was swallowed up by Micah's gaze. His eyes were exquisite . The right eye was a startling blue with dashes of green and gold while his left eyes was a piercing green with stripes of gray and blue. Blinking I tried to find my voice. It was like it was stuck in between my throat and mouth.
"Hey dude!" Someone said behind me. Turning slightly I was greeted by the sight of Micah's best friend Sean Wesley. It was because of him the phase 'All American' was coined. He wore his dirty blond locks long around his face so ever so often he had to whip his hair from his face. The combination of hazel eyes, full lips and dimples almost made me melt. I probably would have if the lockers weren't holding me up. If I ever had a chance Sean would be my number two choice.
"Sup Sean. Hey, you know Declan?" Nodding Sean lifted his hand towards me.
"Yeah man, soccer captain since sophomore year. He's a freakin' legend." Sean said while shaking my sweating hand. It felt like I was about to have a heart attack. I almost didn't survive the first conversation alone with Micah now with Sean there it felt like I was drowning in beautiful, sexy, oh so out of my reach men.
'Pull yourself together. You can do this!' I said to myself.
"So Sean you going to State?" Shaking his head I watched the wisps of hair fall over his eyes.
"I'm be heading to the Naval Academy to start my journey as a Marine. I've already got my scholarship in hand. I'm majoring in aviation and getting my minor in computer certification." O.M.G. he wants to a Marine... I've died and gone to heaven.
"Awesome! I hope everything works out for you." I said more like a nervous jumpy girl than a chilled relaxed guy. I really hope they didn't notice. As we reached the front of the school I spotted Megan leaning against my car chatting with Mildred Evans. I don't like Mildred. She has this... this... personality about her that makes me want to physically harm her. When Megan first introduced us to one another she immediately assumed that I was into her. She would flip her bleach bottle blond hair and constantly lick her lips while literally eating me up with her eyes.
One night at a party she came over drenched in cheap perfume and in some tacky shirt/skirt combo that was too small. She started to flirt and I did everything in my power to get away. I wasn't trying to be rude it just happened. She pressed her chest to me and tried to kiss me when I pushed her back into the table where the chips and dip was laid. When the table went over the music came to a stop and everyone turned to look at her on the ground covered in onion dip and ruffle potato chips.
"You pushed me!" She yelled. Wiping my mouth I glared down at her.
"Hell yeah I pushed you! I don't even fucking know you and you tried to shove your tongue down my throat. If I wanted a prostitute I'd go pay for one. I don't know you. I don't like you and I damn sure don't want to kiss you!" It was quiet for a minute before someone snickered. Then another, then another. Before you knew it the entire house was laughing. I watched her stand and shuck off the chips and dip. Without another glance she stomped away from the party. No one questioned the reason I pushed away. It was evident that she was trying too hard.
Afterwards I thought about it. If someone was really paying attention they would have figured out the real reason I pushed her away. Thank GOD they'd all been drinking. Ever since then Mildred and I have not spoken to each other. Instead of choosing sides Megan talks to both of us but not at the same time. When Mildred saw me walking towards the car she quickly waved goodbye and left.
"You're late." Megan said turning around to me.
"It's not my fault." I said innocently. Raising a brow she shifted her weight to her right leg and gave me that 'you dirty liar' look. Pointing back towards Micah and Sean I unlocked the car with the key-less remote.
"It's their fault. I was with them." I said. Looking around me she quickly looked back to me.
"It's whose fault?" She asked. Turning I was about to say their names when I noticed no one was there... great. Now Megan thinks I'm lying.
"I swear on Pinky's grave I was just with Micah and Sean. We were talking about school and that's what held me up." Yanking the car door open Megan climbed in and almost slammed the door closed.
"Feel free to tell me the truth anytime you like." She said ignoring my innocent face.
"I'm telling you the truth!" I cried as I climbed in the driver's seat of my 2011 Ford Mustang.
"Whatever." She mumbled. Cranking Eleanor up I let her purr for a minute before throwing her into reverse. We drove in silence for a minute before we pulled up to the exit gate. Micah and Sean stood at their cars laughing with one another. Spotting me Sean waved and came over.
"Sweet wheels man. What year?" As I told him the year I noticed his eyes drifting over to Megan.
"You guys got me in trouble. I was late because of you." I said as Micah came over and leaned in the passenger window.
"Sorry dude, didn't mean to make your girlfriend angry with you." Sean said. Looking up Megan smirked.
"He would be so lucky." She said.
"Honestly it was our fault. We got to talking about school for next year and lost track of time." Micah said coming to my rescue. I watched Megan's eyes widen then she slowly looked to me. I sat there with a 'bitch I told you so' look on my face.
"Declan... I'm so sorry." She said her voice somewhat wavering.
"Since you apologized I won't say I told you so... but while we're on the subject..." I opened my mouth wide to yell it out when Megan slammed her hand over my mouth.
"If those words come out of your mouth kiss your birthday gift goodbye." She hissed. Slowly she removed her hand and sat back in her seat. Smiling at Micah she said goodbye then said it to Sean who had been staring at her the entire time. Placing my hands back on the steering wheel I cleared my throat and glanced to both Micah and Sean.
"So... see you tomorrow." I said. Nodding both boys step back and watched me pull out of the parking lot. As we made our way down the road Megan turned to me and frowned.
"When did you get all buddy-buddy with Micah Phillips and Sean Wesley?" Turning down Arbor Avenue I let a smile creep up on my face.
"Ever since Micah and I found out we were going to have a baby together." Yeah that threw her for a loop.
"WHAT?!" She yelled. Laughing I pulled up in front of her house.
"We're having a baby." I said putting Eleanor in park.
"Explain!" Looking over to her front porch I watched as her father opened the door and stepped out. Pointing to him I quickly put Eleanor back into drive.
"Yeah... later. Your scary ass dad is watching." Looking over her shoulder Megan moaned.
"He is so embarrassing." Climbing out she leaned over into the window.
"He leaves for work at seven. You better be ringing my phone at seven-o-one." Turning she jogged across the lawn and jumped into her father's arms. Hugging her tightly he kissed her cheek then let her down. I watched as her father gave me his patented wave and shoo off scowl. With a honk of my horn I was gone. Fifteen minutes later I pulled into my father's garage.
"Hey dad!" I shouted over the noise of the radio. Looking up my dad waved at me then went back to work. Heading for the office I started to boot the computer and get the invoices ready to be put in when I felt my phone buzzing. Pulling it from my pocket I read the I.D only to read it again.
'Micah Phillips' blazed across the screen of my phone. Why was he calling me? What had I done? Did he know I was obsessed with him? How did he get my cell number? By the time I made up my mind to answer it had already gone to voice mail.
"Well...damn."
