Chpater 40

<Hope's p.o.v>

Xavier jumped to my side, and put an arm around my waist.

"Why the tears?"

"W-why a-m I s-still alive?" He gasped, and shook his head.

"Because you are a beautiful him being, and you deserve to live. To live for a better life. To live for those you love. To live for me. I need you, Hope. I need you, and I don't know why. If you left, I don't know--" He couldn't carry on, his voice broke, and tears fell from his face too.

Now I was stuck on what to do.

"Shhh. Shush. I, I don't intend on leaving. I promise." I lied. This calmed him down slightly, but tears were still falling from his face.

So, without thinking, I leaned in and pressed my lips to his.

He gasped, but kissed me back.

Electric currents were buzzing all around me, and I all could hear was my vast heartbeat in my ears.

I broke off from the kiss, panting.

"I can't believe I just did that." I breathed.

"Neither can I." Out of nowhere, laughter bubbled up in my throat, I didn't stop it, and I let it come out.

At first, shock was visible on his face, but he soon joined in with me.

This made me laugh harder.

Don't ask me why.

I laughed until I was breathless, and my stomach was hurting slightly.

I looked at him with admiration showing in my eyes, and I closed my eyes and inhaled the smell of him.

I laid my head on his shoulder, and drifted off into a peaceful sleep.

<Xavier's p.o.v>

I laid Hope back down on the sofa and went to get some breakfast.

When I left, I was grinning stupidly.

I exited the doorway, and was immediately greeted by a smug-looking Rebecca, and a grinning Hana.

"What?" I asked innocently.

Rebecca rolled her eyes, and said.

"We both saw that kiss." I blushed hard.

"What about it?" Hana and Rebecca laughed.

"You two are the cutest couple!" Hana cried.

"Can I be your bridesmaid at your wedding?"

"Ooh! Please let me be the god mother of your firstborn."

"And me, your second born!"

"How many kids do you want?"

"How long have you liked her?"

"Tell me how it all started!"

"Yess, how did it all start?"

I groaned.

"I'd rather not answer all of these annoying questions. If Hope wants to answer them, she can." I told them with finality.

I opened a cupboard and got out some cereal.

I offered a bowl to each Rebecca and Hana. They took one.

Breakfast was mostly silent.

I was too busy thinking about the kiss.

The feel of her lips on mine.

The way it was just so sudden.

I felt myself grinning again, just thinking about it.

This girl was driving me crazy.

I was snapped out of my thoughts by Hana.

She giggled.

"Someday, I want to love someone the way you love her." She sighed.

I groaned. Not this again.

"It was just a kiss!"

"'Just a kiss'?! Come on. Nobody grins that much. We all know that you love her." I blushed, but didn't argue further.

I finished my cereal, and went to check up on Hope.

She was still sleeping soundly.

I smiled to myself again.

Her eyes fluttered open as if she sensed my presence. She saw me and smiled.

I smiled back.

I sat down by her.

"Tired?" I asked.

She shook her head. I raised my eyebrows.

"Yeah right, go back to sleep."

She grinned and grabbed my hand.

She drifted off again.

And I swear, she was smiling in her sleep.
