Imani told Isaiah to invite him to play with them, which he did. They had all played until the streetlights came on and the same process ended up repeating itself day after day.
Imani bit her lip trying to hold back her smile while thinking about the nostalgic moment. It felt bittersweet seeing Keshawn again, because it always reminded her of all the good moments they had together. How could she ever forget?
"Well, we lived in the same neighborhood and Isaiah asked him to play basketball with him and Iyana. After that he just kept coming over." Imani said, sitting down in her assigned seat next to Rilynn. She pulled her calculus folder out of her book bag along with her pen and a calculator. She rubbed the temple of her head, already dreading whatever lesson they were going to have today.
Rilynn looked at her with a smile after hearing the explanation. "Isn't cool that you guys met again. If that happened to me it'd almost feel like fate." Rilynn joked. Imani laughed with her trying to avoid the knot in her stomach that she felt every time Keshawn was a topic, or just around.
Imani walked through her front door, instantly finding her way to the stairs so she could go to her room. She dropped her book bag on the floor and collapsed in her bed, bringing her pillow into her grasp. A huge sigh escaped her lips thinking about how she had to get ready for this party even though she just got home. She opened instagram checking Jocelynns story, she looked at her posting with her friends at Publix's, which they would always do during lunch.
It was such a shock to 8mani when she found out Publix was just a southern thing. Imani decided to FaceTime Jocelynn, hoping for an answer. Imani clicked the FaceTime button in Jocelynn's contact, and it brought a smile to Imani's face at how click Jocelynn was to answer her call. "Hello Joceyy, I'm missing youu."
Jocelynn broke out into a smile after hearing Imani's greeting. "Hii mani, I was just thinking about you." She confessed, taking a bite of her hot honey chicken tender sub. "I'm eating a pub sub, and I wanted to ask you, how are the pub subs in New York?"
Imani let out a huge sigh hearing her question, "There are no pub subs. I go to the deli sometimes, but it's just not the same."
Jocelynn let out a gasp, and it made Imani laugh at how dramatic it was.
"Jocelynn, what the fuck you got goin on over there?" Someone asked, and Imani assumed it was Jocelynn's younger brother, Jordan.
Jocelynn turned her head, "Imani just told me they don't have any pub subs in New York."
Imani seen Jordan's face pop up in the camera, and she waved at him. Jordan was only one year younger than Imani, but they only ever exchanged words when Jocelynn was around.
"Hey Imani, how's New York?" Jordan questioned.
"It's okay, it's kinda bir8ng right now, but it probably because I don't know any good places to go." She admitted, and Jocelynn nodded her head in a 'thats fair' way. "I am going to a party tonight tho."
Jocelynn's eyes widened and her head snapped back over to face her phone. "Well, why didn't you start with that?"
Imani laughed, getting up from her bed and walking to her closet. "I was going to, I need you to help me pick out an outfit." Imani laid out potential options on her bed, and she tried to hurry because she didn't want to delay the group.
