In the operating room was contolled chaos. Doctors ordered nurses to administer medication Tim thought were Harry Potter spells, they made Tim gown up before entering the room, despite Lucy's heart wrenching pleas.
In the room a long, blue tarp was hung right under Lucy's neck so she couldn't see anything that was happening, which only made her panic even more. There was a small bassinet in the corner of the room, a soft blanket on the bottom and two nurses stationed by it.
All the doctors and nurses that were in the room were in shrubs. When they finally let Tim into the room, Lucy was still calling out for him.
L: Tim?, she called when she heard the door open.
T: I'm here baby, I'm right here, he said, kissing her foreahead and wiping away her tears.
L: they took you away from me, she cried, taking her hand in his.
T: I know but I'm here now okay.
Doctor: okay Lucy so you shouldn't feel s thing. No pain just pressure alright!?, she called from behind the tarp.
L: okay, she said, her voice shaky.
The experience was uncomfortable to say the least. Lucy felt every pull, every tug, every stretch but strangly no pain. Tim held her hand the whole time. Kissing her when she got worried or showed the slightest bit of panic.
T: you're doing great my love. Just focus on me, he said, smiling, while stroking her hair.
T: they're almost done. And then we'll get to meet our little baby, he said excitedly.
Lucy smiled, looking at how happy he was. Her eyes were glossy, her body uncomfortable but Tim coached her though the whole thing.
Doctor: here we are. A beautiful baby girl, she said, holding her up for Tim and Lucy to see her.
She was pink, covered in fluids, tiny- she was so tiny.
Lucy started crying happy tears. Her thumb brushing against Tim's cheek as he cried a couple tears of his own.
The two nurses whisked her away before they could say anything though.
Everything seemed perfect for a minute.
Seemed.
Tim waited to hear the sound of his daughter cries. But it never came. It was silent in the room. Too silent. Then he heard it.
Nurse: she's not crying! Vitals are decreasing at a rapid rate! She's not breathing!
Tim's whole world stopped. His eyes locked on the tiny bassinet, the bright pink human motionless in front of him.
If that wasn't enough Lucy's voice caught his attention.
L: Tim something's not right, she said, her words slurring together.
T: what's wrong baby?, he asked, cupping her face with his hands.
She tried to say something but her eyes were already closing shut.
T: what's happening sweet heart?, he asked, trying to keep her awake.
Then he got the answer to his question.
Doctor: she's hemorrhaging!, she shouted.
Tim's soul left his body.
T: Luce, Lucy! Baby stay with me okay, he said tapping her cheek.
Her eyes cracked open slightly, then closed just as fast, her hand going limp in his.
T: no baby, wake up. Wake up Lucy, he begged, tears streaming down her face.
