Part 9 - The Appointment

Start from the beginning

Doctor: okay well. Today we're going to measure the baby to find out how many weeks along you are as well as your due date. How does that sound?

T: great!

L: do we get to see the baby or hear the heartbeat?

Doctor: of course, I could even print some pictures if you would like?

L: yes please, that would be amazing!, she said excitedly, turning her head to look at Tim who had an equally as wide smile.

Doctor: I'll also be checking your vitals to make sure that everything is okay. So like your blood pressure, heartrate, and I'll have to take a blood sample to run some additional tests. Do you consent to all of that?, she asked Lucy.

L: yeah, yes I do.

Doctor: okay great! I have some questions for you before we begin.

L: sure.

Doctor: are you experiencing any symptoms?, she asked, pen in hand.

L: um yeah. Nausea and mood swings, she answered.

Doctor: okay that sounds good.

T: um is it normal to throw up multiple times a day?, he asked.

Doctor: like how many times are we talking?

T: like two or three. But it's almost every time she eats something, he explained.

T: as soon as she eats food she rushes off the bathroom and pukes it all out, he said.

Doctor: are there any food that you can keep down Lucy?

L: um yeah. Bread and Jam and we had some tacos before we came. That's all for now.

Doctor: okay so it is normal to be very sick. It should fade away in somewhere in the second trimester. But for now just eat light meals or things that your body will keep down so your not malnourished, she told them.

L: okay thank you.

Doctor: no problem. Is there anything else that tyour concerned of?

L: no, babe?

T: no that's it.

Doctor: alright then let's get right to it, she said, pulling up her own chair next to Lucy.

Doctor: I just need you to lay down for me and lift up your shirt so I have full access to your stomach.

Lucy did as she was told and squeezd Tim's hand happily.

Doctor: okay so I'm going to put this gel on your stomach. It will be a bit cold but it does let me move the ultrasound wand around a lot easier, she explained.

Doctor: okay so this is your small intestines, your stomach, and here is your baby!, she said, pointing on the screen to show Tim and Lucy.

L: oh my God!, she said, her eyes filled with tears already.

T: look baby, our little star!, he said, looking at the black and white screen with heart eyes.

The doctor just smiled to herself.

L: babe, they're so small!, she said, not taking her eyes off the screen for a second.

T: I can't believe that there is actually a baby inside of you!, he laughed.

L: well there is your proof! They look perfect, she said softly.

T: I agree! I love them so much already!, he said genuinely. Tim stood up from his seat and brushed a quick kiss to Lucy's lips.

Doctor: okay. So the baby looks good, no visible problems. You are around 14 weeks pregnant so your due date would be approximately June 18th, she told them. Do you want to hear the heartbeat now?

T: yes please!

Dr. Miller let them hear the baby's heartbeat.

L: Tim, she said softly, a tear running down her face.

T: this is so awesome!, he said, squeezing Lucy's hand.

Doctor: here are the ultrasound pictures, she said, handing Lucy the pictures.

L: look babe, these are definitely going on the fridge!, she said excitedly.

Doctor: now I'm going to run the tests on you. Your lab results should be ready in aboht 48 hours. We'll contact you on the phone, you don't have to come in for that, she told them.

Dr. Miller did the tests and concluded that everything was as it should be.

Doctor: okay so before I send you off here are some prenatal vitamins. Take two a day, preferably after breakfast. Before you leave please check with the front desk to schedule your next appointment.

T: we will!

L: thank you for everything!

Doctor: your welcome. I'll see you in a couple weeks, she said before leaving the room.

Tim and Lucy gathered their things and scheduled their next appointment just like the doctor said before they headed home.
