Imani shrugged her shoulders, "I'm not hungry,"
Elijah sighed, hearing the same phrase Imani had been saying the whole summer. It honestly started to worry him how much less Imani had been eating, and he had only hoped it wasn't intentional. "Imani please just put something on your plate. Did you even eat today?"
Imani scrunched up her lips, "Did I eat today?" She repeated back the question, which she always did when she was about to lie.
Her dad turned her around from the kitchen island to the stove so she could grab a plate. Imani picked up the plate and added just enough food on it so her dad wouldn't nag her about. She truly wasn't hungry, but she'd eat if it would calm her father's spirt.
Imani was last to join the table, seating herself next to her twin. She picked at her food listening to them converse across the table.
"We all gotta hang out sometime. You know I just got my new car." Isaiah suggested, not failing to talk about the new car.
Iyana took a bite of her food, looking at her dad with a baffled look. "Dad, since when could you cook?"
Elijah looked at her offended, "You tryna be funny?"
Iyana turned to Imani with a confused look on her face, "I'm laughing?"
Imani chuckled, shaking her head. Her dad waved them off, and 8mani just enjoyed the typical playful manner amongst her family.
"Can we get back to my question?" Isaiah circled back to his question that Imani hadn't took serious. She thought he was just taking this as an opportunity to brag about his new car.
Imani mocked him with a whiny voice before taking a bite of her food and laughing at him. Isaiah rolled his eyes at her, flipping her off while her dad wasn't looking. The twins gasped looking at their dad trying to get him in trouble like they used to do when they were kids.
"Dad I know you saw that!" Imani complained, and Elijah shrug his shoulders.
"Yall too old to still be snitching on each other," Elijah told them, poking at his food. "Isaiah apologize to your sister."
Isaiah looked at him with his mouth agape as Imani laughed at him tauntingly. "Youn even know what I did." He tried to defend himself.
Elijah shrugged his shoulders, "I know you did something."
Elijah got up from the dinner table, leaving the four teenagers alone. The table fell quiet when he left, and Imani had completely forgotten Keshawn was sitting there. Imani truly couldn't stand how awkward it felt between them, she just couldn't bring herself to talk to him. She didn't why she couldn't rekindle what they had, while Isaiah and Iyana talked to him with ease.
Isaiah was about to tag something, but Iyana quickly shut that down. "Nigga, if you ask that same question again I know something."
Isaiah titled his head, "I'll say is slower just for you."
Keshawn put his arm to Isaiah's chest, gesturing for him not to say anything else. "I could show y'all this arcade I like to go to, it somewhere near here." Keshawn suggested.
All the teens looked in agreement, and the settled upon a date to hang out. This was all very much against Imani's will, even they she didn't speak up about her dismay.
They all left the table and went to the living room after Iyana brought up the idea of playing squads on Fortnite. Imani was not that bad at playing Fortnite, but her siblings were literal sweats. Imani never forgot when Iyana broke her controller after getting so mad at the game, and after that she had to pay Imani $5 to use her controller.
Once everyone jumped out of the bus they searched through different houses looking for chests and any weapon they could find. With everyone going there separate ways Imani avoided anyone on the map knowing she rarely was able to kill anybody in the game alone. She didn't worry about getting anything to build with because she always played no build mode.
Iyana had already killed two people, and she let a dramatic sigh after surviving another fight, "Lucky that didn't happen to you Imani." Iyana joked, and the girl just rolled her eyes.
"Iyana why are you on the other side of the fucking map?" Keshawn complained, and Imani laughed at her sister.
Iyana shrugging her shoulders, "Somebody gotta kills these niggas. I'm the only one wit kills."
"How you the only one with kills and you just seen me kill somebody?" Isaiah pointed out, flicking her head.
"I can hear the echo from your head from over here." Imani laughed.
Iyana kissed her teeth, "Imani I'm about to come over there and kill you." She threatened, and Imani put her hands up pretending to be scared.
"You worried about Imani and you about to die." Keshawn told her, making Iyana turn around and start screaming. "On the other side of the map may I add."
Iyana died, and she threw her controller on the couch in frustration. "This is a fucking cheese ball sweat lobby."
"Im the only one with kills." Isaiah mocked her, reminding her of the comment she made only a few minutes ago.
Imani laughed to herself, "Lucky it didn't happen to Imani."
They all continued to play the game with each other, and after a while Imani stopped and sat in their company while on her phone. She couldn't exactly pinpoint what time she fell asleep that night, she just remembered waking up in her room.
