IN WHICH Imani averette moves to New york with her family after the tragic death of her mother. She arrives at...
Everybody got up to throw their plates away, and the four kids gathered around on the couch. While they were all in their own conversation, Imani was yet to say a word. Keshawn noticed, and looked over at the girl who seems to be lost in her head. "Imani what's wrong witchu?" Keshawn questioned.
She finally looked up at the rest of them, shrugging her shoulders at his question. Every dig knew what was wrong with Imani, wasn't like it was a secret. "You sad to see me go?" Keshawn messed with girl, knowing that was most likely why she was upset. Everybody was upset that Keshawn was leaving, everybody else just had a better way of hiding it. Imani was just sensitive, and this definitely strung one of her heart strings.
"Imani's gonna miss her boyfriend." Isaiah teased is little sister, making the girl roll her eyes.
"I do not like Keshawn," Imani defended herself, while her siblings still didn't seem bought by it. Imani's two older siblings always swore Keshawn and Imani liked each other. It didn't matter how much the pair tried to deny it.
"Isaiah leave your sister alone. You know she doesn't like it when you two do that." Keshawn's mom reminded the boy.
Iyana looked at Imani with a smirk making a kissing motion with her hands. Since Iyana was in the middle of Keshawn and Isaiah, Keshawn smacked her arm. Iyana hissed pulling her arm.
"What is wrong with you!" Iyana exclaimed holding her arm, "That hurt," the girl complained.
"Leave Imani alone, you sound stupid," Keshawn rebutted, "and I did not hit you that hard."
Summer shook her head at the four children, waving them off, "Y'all go off somewhere and play."
They got up from their seats moving over to the coach, because it was time for Keshawn to leave. Everyone said a special goodbye to Keshawn, and the last person to say bye was Imani. She tried tilting her head up, so the tears in her eyes wouldn't leave. When she felt a tear leave her eye anyway, she put her head back down. Her eyes had finally locked with Keshawn, and the boys face softened seeing the girls red eyes.
Keshawn looked at the girl almost in shock, seeing a tear roll down her face, "Imani are you crying? You never cry."
Imani shook her head, wiping the tear off of her face, "Stop focusing on me, this is about you." She redirected the conversation, avoiding his question. Keshawn laughed, pulling the girl into a hug.
She sniffled, as the tears fell down onto his shirt, "Don't be too sad when I leave Mani. Imma see you again." he tried to reassure her, hiding the uncertainty he felt.
"What if I don't?" She questioned, her voice slightly cracking. It was hard for her to talk while she was crying because her neck felt hot and she had a huge lump in her throat.
Keshawn felt a pang in his chest hearing his friend cry. It hurt him even worse because she was crying over him. While he felt bad, he couldn't deny the fact he felt special that she was the only person she had ever cried around.
"Don't worry bout that, I'm not gon let that happen Imani." He assured her, trying to make her feel better. Was he absolutely sure he was gonna see her again? No, but it felt good to say it. "I promise I'm gonna see you again. I don't break my promises."
