~HOMECOMING~ (poem I wrote in class one day)

They all go to fight

Expecting to be heroes

But I see the darker side of their logic

Such enthusiasm I see as I wait silently on the battlefield

Laughter and joking I hear from all those who surround me

Talk about the upcoming battle or previous ones echoes on the ground

But silence falls as the battle approaches

Shots are fired, flags are waving

Commands are flying left and right

I slink around the chaos like a snake stalking its pray

Watching as people fall

Also watching as others barely escape my grasp

The deafening sounds of battle are everywhere

But the worst sounds of all are the screams

Screams from the injured, screams from the dying

Neither can be distincted upon as which one is more agonizing

Seeing the light leave one's eyes, the color drain from one's face

Oh, just what this fighting has done to all the human race

Blood now stains the ground, almost everywhere one can step

One the battle is over, I count those that are left

And I am grateful that during this battle

They have escaped me following them on their homecoming
