~THE INEVITABILITY OF PAIN~ (poem I wrote one night)

Pain is inevitable,

No matter what the situation;

Especially the pain of love

Oh, such a horrible sensation.

The pain of seeing such a sweet, sweet smile

Placed on their face by someone other than you.

Or the petty little arguments over things so stupid

That leave you thinking "What should I do?".

Is it better to leave or is it better to stay?

When all the pain has you feeling that way?

Feeling as though you're sometimes just not good enough...

And those times it seems easier just to give up.

The choices are hard to fathom at first,

And we always tend to shy away from the worst.

So it does require some strength and some might

To be a victim of love, bearing both the joy and the pain.

And there is almost nothing that hurts a person more

Than to be used for another's own selfish gain.

However, there is one thing that can hurt more than that,

And such a horrible sight it is to see.

Watching a loved one suffer through anything

Especially anything that can cause them agony.

An illness, perhaps, or just a time of bad fortune

Something that leaves the body and/or mind in such terrible distortion.

Things that leave your loved one feeling no ability to function

Cause you yourself to place the blame in your own corner.

And things that happen beyond your control

May cause anger inside you like heat rising and getting warmer.

This pain is different than that of relationships;

Love is involved in both but it's just not the same.

The different levels of love that you feel

Are the reasons for the variety of levels of pain.

We sometimes wonder "How much more can I take?

Before my body finally just breaks?"

Under all this pressure and sadness we feel,

The inevitability of pain is so very real.
