The rooftop garden was quiet, the distant hum of city traffic blending with the chirping of crickets. The sky bled deep blue into violet as evening fell, and the soft warmth of the setting sun painted shadows over the greenery.

Marceline sat against the garden wall, head tilted back, eyes half-lidded. Damian stood in front of her, arms crossed but closer than he'd usually allow. The silence between them wasn't cold anymore - it was loaded, electric, like a storm gathering on the edge of the horizon.

"So," Mars murmured, breaking the quiet, "are you going to admit it yet?"

Damian's brow arched. "Admit what?"

"That you care. That you're scared I'll get hurt again."

His jaw tightened, but the sharpness in his eyes dulled. He knelt down, resting his elbows on his knees so they were eye level. "Tt. You're reckless. You drive me insane. And yes - it terrifies me."

For a moment, it was just them. Breaths mingling. The space between them shrinking.

Marceline's hand brushed his, their fingers barely touching before-

BZZZT.

The communicator on Damian's wrist blared to life. A crackle of static, then Dick's voice:
"Suit up, both of you. Situation room. Now."

Mars sighed, leaning her head against Damian's shoulder for one lingering second. "Guess our moment's over."

Damian cursed under his breath, rising to his feet. "It's not over."

And with that, they both turned toward the Tower's entrance, the weight of war building again.

The doors to the Titans' situation room slid open with a hiss, revealing a tight knot of tension in the air.

Dick stood at the head of the table, arms braced against its surface. Kory hovered nearby, her brow furrowed, while Garfield leaned against a wall, fidgeting with a stress ball. Jaime paced. Raven sat cross-legged on a floating cushion, eyes half-lidded but alert.

The massive central screen displayed a grainy, overhead shot of a remote compound tucked deep in the mountains. Security drones hovered at its perimeter, and scattered heat signatures glowed like embers in the cold.

"About time," Dick muttered, shooting Damian and Mars a look as they entered.
"You two were-" his eyes flicked down to their almost-linked hands before he cleared his throat. "Never mind. Sit down."

They did. The air was heavy, every pair of eyes on the room's screens, but more than that - on each other.

"Is this about Ra's?" Damian asked, tone clipped.

"Yeah," Dick confirmed. "We found his base. And he's not alone."
He tapped a button, pulling up a secondary display - showing stolen tech, mystic artifacts, and the unmistakable glint of the old artifact in Ra's hand as he disappeared into a shadowed corridor.

Mars felt the room tilt slightly, her breath catching. The thing that had taken hold of her mind... it was still out there. Still his.

Jaime swore under his breath. Kory's eyes glowed.

Gar broke the tension first. "Okay, so what's the plan? Because I swear to god if it's 'punch him in the face,' I'm in - but I need snacks first."

The faintest smile tugged at Mars's lips.

Dick straightened. "Not yet. Here's what we're gonna do-"

And with that, the planning began.

Dick took a deep breath, tapping the display screen again as a 3D projection of the enemy base rose in the center of the room. The compound was massive - half-buried into the mountainside, surrounded by thick forest and a natural river barrier.
It wasn't just a stronghold - it was a fortress.
