A few small candles, which Raven had left behind, dimly lit the infirmary room. Everything still felt so weird to Marceline, who had woken up a moment ago. She was still feeling slightly empty and groggy from the sedative. The tower was fully quiet. There was not a single sound other than the constant zooming of the tech and cabled-in equipment.
Mars felt weak and sore like something had clawed her way into the skin and left some slightly burning ashes in her.
She looked to her side noticing a sleeping figure.
It was Damian, his hair falling over his face and his cloak half over his shoulders. He looked like he had been out for a little but still looking exhausted. He must have been here since she got places here.
Mars felt conflicted, she didn't know why he would stay with her here after what she told home him. She felt bad, but happy that he still stayed with her. Scared of the fact that he probably hated her for everything, she slightly moved her arm and hand to grab the cloak to pull it a bit more over the sleeping boy.
He stirred slightly.
''Marceline..'' his voice was slightly drowned out as he called her name. Hesitantly, Marceline pulled her hand back. Slowly, as not to wake him up.
He moved even more as he slightly moved his face up, his half-asleep eyes meeting hers.
''Damian'' Mars called out softly, not to startle him. Her eyes nervously broke contact with his. He moved up slightly from his lying down position to a more proper sat position.
''You're awake, how are you feeling?'' He sounded still so cold but had eyes of worry.
'' I'm alright, Damian,'' Mars told him. He just gave her a look that asked for more confirmation that she was alright.
She took the hint. ''Really, Damian. I'm feeling alright.''
His hand almost lay against hers. Almost as if he was hesitant to take hers into his.
Mars was slightly dislocated as everything from the night before returned. The pain in her chest, the constant pulsing, the voices calling her from the shadows. The pain in her head started getting more and more present by the second, getting so bad that she had to suppress blacking out.
Her breathing started getting more and more shallow by the second.
Damian took her by the wrist. Still hesitant to take her hand.
''Hey,.. Hey, it is gonna be alright, you said you were alright. It's okay.'' he blurted out words of comfort, not knowing whether it was gonna work or not.
He slowly but surely got her calmed down as he wasn't holding her wrist but her hand as if to give comfort. They both slowly went off of they're defence system and the quiet and safe space returned.
After what felt like an hour but in reality was 15 minutes, Marceline spoke up.
''I'm sorry, Damian.'' Her eyes were drowned in the fabrics of the blanket that lay over her.
''For what'' he spoke slightly confused about what she meant, but also curious by it.
''For everything and anyone, I'm a danger and a mess,'' she blurted out.
He didn't think of her like that, she is just a girl with problems like any other person, but these problems are just enhanced because of her powers.
''I don't think of you like that, and the other neither, otherwise they would visit you in here and trust me they did... a lot. especially Garfield and Jaime. '' She looked up at him in surprise''
