You panted. The stairs went on forever.
"When do they stop?" You whined.
Maka giggled. "Not for a while."
You groaned, and sat on the stairs, huffing and puffing.
"Just lemme take a break."
Maka and Soul sat next to you.
"You're never gonna get used to it if you don't do it."
"Just, give me a minute."
Your legs were burning, and you really needed a rest, but you forced yourself to get up and finish the stairs anyway.
When you finally got to the top, you looked at the school. It'd be perfect if those stairs didn't go on forever.
You were scanning the building, trying to take in the architecture, when you saw what looked like a blue monkey standing on one of the spikes.
"I AM THE GREAT BLACK STAR!" It yelled.
"Black Star, get down from there!" Said a girl with a black ponytail.
The monkey-obviously named Black Star-jumped down and landed gracefully on his feet.
"Tsubaki, chill. I'm just greeting the new student."
Tsubaki looked a little surprised.
"Does he normally do that?" You asked.
Tsubaki shook her head. "I don't know why you're different, but who else does? Only Black Star. I'm Tsubaki, by the way." She smiled and held out a hand.
"AND I AM BLACK STAR!" The monkey-er, boy-said, grinning.
"Nice to meet you Tsubaki and Black Star, but I really have to head off." Soul and Maka were waiting patiently, and you didn't want to make them wait any longer.
They led you on.
You went into the school, and headed through the halls. Eventually, you came to a door. Soul opened it, and you all stepped past the threshold.
The hall you found yourself in was long, and wound this way and that. The ceiling was decorated with multiple guillotines. You kept feeling as though at any moment, one might fall and chop one of your limbs off.
Eventually, you got to the end of the hallway, and found a room with a platform in the center. All along the edges were broken crosses sticking out of the floor. Lumpy clouds lazily drifted across the invisible walls and on the floor. On the platform, next to a large mirror, was a guy cloaked in black with a goofy skull mask on.
This must be Lord Death. You thought to yourself.
Lord Death was talking to a boy. He had black hair, with three white stripes on his left side. He turned, and you saw his yellow eyes. They were almost scary.
"I should leave, father." He said quietly.
Lord Death nodded.
So the boy was probably Lord Death's son.
He headed down the hallway, and you stood there with Soul and Maka.
"Lord Death, this is (f/n), and she wants to enroll in school here." Said Maka.
"Eeh?" Lord a Death turned to you. "Are you a weapon or a Meister?"
"A-a weapon, sir." You gulped. "I'm a spear."
"A spear, huh?" Lord Death leaned closer to whisper in your ear. "Im sensing some great powers in you."
You smiled weakly.
"I'll call you up when I have a Meister for you. For now, just master turning into a weapon at will."
You and the others started heading back down the hall, but found the boy, trying to eavesdrop.
"Hey, what are you doing?" You asked.
"Umm...admiring the perfect symmetry of this hallway!" He replied.
"It's not symmetrical. The guillotine blades are all slanted."
The boy looked up. "So they are. I'm going to have to have a word with my father about this!"
You did a much better job of holding in your laughter this time.
"Anywho, I'm (y/n)." You said.
"I'm Death the Kid." He held out his hand. "Pleasure to meet you." He said.
"The pleasure is all mine." You grabbed his hand and shook it. You felt weird being so formal.
Then somebody cleared their throat and you looked behind you.
Soul and Maka were still waiting.
"You guys can go on ahead. I know you don't like waiting for me because I'm too slow."
"Okay." Maka said, reluctantly pulling Soul along behind her.
You realized you were still grabbing Kid's hand, so you quickly let go.
He smiled.
"What class are you in?" He asked.
You checked your little slip of paper. "Uhh, class crescent moon."
"Really? No offense, but I think crescent moon is for weapons and Meisters with a bit more experience."
"None taken, and I dunno. Lord Death did say he sensed great things in me." You replied.
Kid looked lost in thought.
He led you to your class, and you sat down next to some random kids in the back.
You noticed that Maka, Soul, Tsubaki, Black Star, and Kid were all in the same class as you.
Eventually, school ended, and Kid invited you over to his house.
You walked home with him and two other girls he introduced as Liz, and Patty, his weapons.
You got to his house, and saw a perfectly symmetrical manor.
He ushered you inside, and you marveled at how he was able to make every single little detail perfectly symmetrical.
You almost laughed again. Almost.
"So, make yourself at home, I'll make some tea." Kid said, gesturing to the couch. You sat down, and Liz and Patty sat on either side. Liz started painting her nails, while chatting absently with you, while Patty was coloring in a coloring book with a yellow crayon.
Kid started to make some tea.
"So, (y/n)." Asked Liz. "How was your first day at the DWMA?"
"Pretty good. It had it ups and downs."
"That's good, you like any boys yet?"
If kid had set the tea down 10 seconds before, you probably would've had a mouthful and spit it out all over his suit.
Luckily, you didn't, you just choked on air.
"W-why would I like any b-boys? I've b-been here for approximately 24 hours?" You stuttered.
"It's so obvious that you like Kid." Liz replied absently.
"Why would I like Kid? I met him this morning!"
"You ever heard of love at first sight?"
"Pfft, you're crazy."
Liz smiled. "Alright, whatever."
