Chapter 2: Hidden Threads

------*------

Athena's Point of View

We tried everything we could to access the folders again, using every known backdoor and algorithmic exploit that we knew of para muling makita ang file sa loob ng folder ni Professor Aldwin. But the problem was that the University's database was now protected by countless encryption layers, which was far more than we expected. So, we had to accept that our section would be in detention for days, if not months, as it is the standard penalty for unauthorized database breaches.

But as the minutes ticked by, nothing happened. We didn't receive the Red Code warning we were waiting for.

No red lights.

No sirens.

No warnings on our digital phones.

Yes, our phones, issued by the University, are all connected to the university's system. Ginagamit na namin to buy what we need gamit ang C-Value namin. The device also stores our handbook and our personal information such as our year of birth, age, full name, C-Value ranking, academic history, and even our health monitor, which is linked directly to the sensors embedded in our school uniforms.

Our uniforms are made of nanobots with bio-monitors that track our heart rate, oxygen level, blood pressure, sleep quality, hydration... everything! Kaya if there's any slight anomaly detected sa health namin, the Overseers' medical team will be notified immediately.

So, when we didn't receive any penalty notification from the University, questions came up.

I mean, the last time Section Bravo attempted to breach the University's database, they were hit with the Red Code within seconds. They were dragged to the detention center to explain their reasons, and after that, no one from their class ever dared to touch the University's classified files again.

So why didn't it happen to us?

I stared at my phone, motionless.

If the University really intended to punish us, they should've done it immediately, right after we accessed the database. The system should have flagged our malicious attempt and notified the Disciplinary Department about the unauthorized access. So, why the silence now? Was it a glitch? A delay? Or... did they let us access it?

It can't be. Napakaimposible naman non. Napahawak ako sa aking noo. The Disciplinary Department never misses anything. That's why this entire situation feels... off. What could've gone wrong?

It was exactly 3:00 PM when I checked the time on my phone. Uwian na pala.

"Umuwi na kayo," utos ko sa Alpha, keeping my voice steady. They all nodded in agreement, quickly gathering their things as they sense my unease, but they did not dare to ask.

As they left, I opened the classroom attendance record on my phone and watched in silence as each of them completed their time-out form. The screen glowed in my hand as I sat there alone, thinking.

I glanced around the room, stretched my arms lazily, and let out a long yawn.

Napagod ako. Not just physically, but mentally, too. Pero ang mas masakit pa ro'n? Wala kaming napala sa database ng university. Kaya napabuntong-hininga nalang ako.
