एक प्लेट राजमा में छुपे थे जज़्बात पुराने,
कुछ टूटे सपने, कुछ अधूरे फ़साने...

Author's POV-

The night had folded itself in a soft, silken shawl—cool, quiet, and unhurried. Somewhere in the distance, a street dog barked twice and then stopped. Mira stood in the verandah, her back resting against the iron railing, fingers fidgeting with the hem of her skirt as her phone still buzzed in her hand.

Mumma calling...

She smiled instinctively and picked it up.

"Hello, meri sherni!" her mother's bright voice rang out, and just like that, a familiar warmth spread through Mira's chest. No matter how unpredictable life got, her mother's voice felt like the one steady heartbeat in the chaos.

Mira chuckled, "Kya baat hai, aaj toh full sherni-ki-mumma mode mein bol rahe ho. Kis jung ki tayari hai?"

(What's the matter, today you are talking in full mother-of-lioness mode. Which war are you preparing for?)

Her mother laughed, "Arey, I'm just missing my daughter, that's all. Bata, kahan hai tu? Ghar hai yaa bahar?"

(Hey, I'm just missing my daughter, that's all. Tell me, where are you? Are you at home or outside?)

Mira turned, her gaze shifting back through the slightly open door toward the dining area. Inside, under the soft yellow light, she could see Arjun setting the table while his mother wiped the last of the water droplets from the steel jug, both smiling at something he had just said.

And just like that, Mira smiled too.

"Nahi mumma.. I'm at a friend's place." she said gently.

"Ohh...Friend?" Her mother's voice immediately sharpened with curiosity.

"Hmm," Mira replied with that classic, confident drawl of hers. "Friend hi toh hai. Acha khana mil raha hai, aur free khushiyaan bhi. What more could a girl ask for?"

(Just a friend. I'm getting good food and free happiness. What more could a girl ask for?)

Her mother didn't let up. "Accha, naam toh bata. Aur yeh friend kaisa yaa kaisi hai?"

(Ok, tell me his or her name. And what is this friend like?)

Mira smirked. "Arjun... achha hai. Kaafi decent hai. Cooking skills mein mehnat kar raha hain... character development on track hai."
