Author's POV-
It was 11 a.m.
The house was wrapped in a rare kind of hush.
Sunlight slanted through the cream curtains in the drawing room, slicing soft gold into the walls. The clock ticked steadily. Outside, somewhere far, a pressure cooker let out a hiss.
And Arjun was still asleep.
Of course, he was.
Sleep hadn't touched him properly in over three weeks. Not the deep, dreamless kind that wraps you whole and keeps you warm in a way no blanket can. The kind of sleep that makes you forget pain for a few hours. The kind he didn't even realise he needed... until it came last night.
Thanks to his mother.
"AARRJJJJUUUUUUNNNNN?! Kahaaan hooo tum?" came a sing-song voice crashing through the peace.
(AARRJJJJUUUUUUNNNNN?! Whereee aree you?)
Mira stepped into the familiar house that always smelled faintly of sandalwood, old books. Her sandals padded softly against the marble floor as she closed the main door behind her, balancing a cloth tote bag on one shoulder.
The house was quiet.
Still.
Too still.
The cheerful echo of her voice bounced through the hallway and reached the kitchen, where his mother chuckled and immediately shushed her with an index finger pressed to her lips.
"Shhh! Mira, so raha hai. Kal raat ko der tak baatein karte rahe. Bahut dinon baad... Itne dino baad pehli baar itna kuch kaha."
(Shhh! Mira is sleeping. We was talking till late last night. After many days... After so many days he said so much for the first time.)
Her face glowing with relief and something almost maternal in its softness.
And now, the house reflected that shift in energy.
Mira paused mid-dramatic step. Her eyes softened instantly. "So raha hai?"
