Author's POV-
The tears didn't fall. Not yet.
Maybe he was beyond crying now. Maybe he was afraid that if he started again, he wouldn't stop— that grief, once unchained, would drown him in waves he couldn't surface from.
And then... he felt a presence beside him. Quiet, steady.
She didn't speak right away. Just sat on the swing beside him. No questions. No noise. Just her.
Mira.
Her hand found his — slow, deliberate, careful.
Fingers laced through his gently, anchoring him when his chest felt like it could drift away with the next breath.
When he finally turned to look at her, his vision blurred instantly.
His voice cracked as he leaned toward her and wrapped his arms around her.
"He told me, Mira... subah se sir dard ho raha tha..."
(He told me, Mira... He was having a headache since morning...)
She held him quietly as he went on, voice faltering between syllables. "Doctor ne bataya... brain aneurysm rupture. It's sudden. Silent. Tab tak pata chalta hai jab sab khatam ho chuka hota hai..."
(The doctor said...brain aneurysm rupture. It's Suddenn. Silent. It is known only when everything is over...)
A heavy pause.
"I should've insisted. Main keh sakta tha ki papa, jaao abhi hospital... bas keh deta..."
(I could have said, Papa, go to the hospital right now... I could have just said...)
"Arjun..." she whispered, her voice breaking now too.
He didn't stop.
"Mumma bol rahi thi... woh theek the... khush the... match dekh rahe the... khush ho kar..."
(Mumma was saying... he was fine... he was happy... he was watching the match... happily...)
Mira shut her eyes. A tear slipped past her lashes.
