♡ Chapter - 5 ♡

Start from the beginning

Sitting on her bed, legs crossed, hoodie on, with a bowl of rasmalai in one hand and a spoon in the other like she was casually starring in some chaotic reality show called "Sass with Snacks."

She looked up at me through the screen.

"Wow," she said dryly, "so this is the legendary Arjun who thought he could roast me and still survive. Cute."

I froze.

My stomach did that weird cricket-flip thing it did when I misjudged a bouncer.

Because-no way.

No. Freaking. Way.

I knew that face.

It wasn't just from the call.
It wasn't just from memes or texts or her profile picture that she claimed was "90% forehead and filters."

It was her.

Tea stall.

A random trip three years back where we'd been invited to speak at a college fest.

I'd sneaked out post-event, looking for chai and peace, and found both at a roadside stall outside the gate.

She'd been there.

Wearing a similar hoodie.

Sitting like she owned the footpath, dunking a soggy samosa into her tea with zero shame.

I'd said something about the samosa being suspiciously hollow.

And then she clapped back.

Then-rain.

Out of nowhere.

She had an umbrella. I didn't.

Instinctively, I'd run under hers.

"Excuse you?" she'd snapped.

I remembered grinning like an idiot and saying, "I'm saving my career from pneumonia. Let me live."

She'd rolled her eyes and kept walking. I'd jogged along for a minute. Then she'd vanished into the crowd.

And now... she was here.

Right in front of me.
Eating rasmalaai with the same level of confidence most people didn't even have during job interviews.

She didn't remember. Not even a flicker of recognition.

Ofcourse, I'd changed slightly. Or no. Drastically...

From a Golu-Molu boy to a fit physique man.

I shook my head slightly and forced myself to act normal.

This wasn't the moment to bring it up.

So, instead, I leaned forward with a sheepish smile. "Okay, I did not expect you to look this scary on video. You look like you're about to audit my existence."

She gave me a look. "This is my resting HR face. I'm just calculating how disappointed I should be."

I coughed out a laugh. "Wow. That's comforting."

"Don't flatter yourself, Sweet Potato," she said, scooping a piece of rasmalaai into her mouth like she was on a cooking show.

"I'm just here for entertainment. Let's see what you got."

"You're seriously eating rasmalaai on a video call?"

"Bro," she said, raising a spoon like it was a mic. "You think I'd dress up for a guy who probably uses hair gel labeled 'for extreme hold and dreams?'"

I laughed. "You're impossible. Rasmalaai Girl!"

"And you're late," she said, licking the spoon.

Indeed I was....

"You said 8:30. It's 8:37. I had to emotionally bond with dairy in the meantime."

"You... emotionally bonded with rasmalaai?"

"Yes. Like you, it's sweet and never lets me down."

I chuckled shyly, feeling more relaxed by the second.

"You've been preparing these lines, haven't you?"

"I was born prepared," she said, smug.

"Now show me those socks. I need to know if you're basic or chaotic."

I lifted my foot sheepishly. Plain black socks.

She wrinkled her nose. "Disappointing."

"Okay, your turn," I said.

She raised one foot and flashed mismatched socks-one covered in tiny Rasode Mein Kaun Tha faces, the other with mini avocados holding knives.

Heyy bhagwaan yeh ladki!!!

"You terrify me," I said.

"Good. Keeps the flirting under control."

I laughed again, heart pounding in a way that had nothing to do with nervousness and everything to do with her.

Her voice. Her energy. That laugh that filled the space between her words. And that insane moment that only I remembered-the umbrella, the tea, the unexpected drizzle of fate.

I didn't tell her. Not yet.

Because something told me... this was just the beginning.
And I didn't want to skip ahead.
