"Don't you dare!" Ethan warned, but took the hand. He didn't have a choice.

Bellamy's grin got bigger somehow. "What?"

"You know what," Ethan gritted his teeth as Bellamy yanked him to his feet and pulled him against him. Bellamy wrapped an arm around Ethan's back, holding him chest to chest. Bellamy leaned closer to touch their noses together in a taunt. "You like to take advantage."

"Absolutely." Bellamy stole his kiss, light and chaste.

Ethan didn't bite as he wanted to. Bellamy would take that as permission for more, and he did not want that on a battlefield.

Bellamy laughed and shifted their position, keeping an arm under Ethan's shoulder to support him. Ethan grumbled but leaned against Bellamy, and the man took his weight without any complaints. There were far more embarrassing ways for Bellamy to support him.

"Come on, let's get back to your base camp."

They walked through the field and passed the bodies of soldiers, both alive and dead. Ethan couldn't help but notice they had won thanks to Bellamy and his men. A lot of dark-steel armoured soldiers strode through the battlefield, helping more than a few soldiers wearing Ablein colours. Most were heading back to the camp in groups of twos and threes.

Halfway across the field, Ethan swayed and stopped as the pain and dizziness got too much. Bellamy stopped with him and held him upright as he swayed.

"Feel better?" Bellamy asked. His grip on Ethan remained solid and grounded.

Ethan grunted, closing his eyes and taking a deep breath. Fuck, this was bad. Bellamy had done him a great favour; however, it was never a good thing to show the warrior weakness. Bellamy always took advantage.

"Grit your teeth," Bellamy warned as he changed his grip. Ethan yelped as Bellamy picked him up and slung him over his shoulders in a battlefield carry.

"Put me down!"

"No." A hand slapped his ass, and Bellamy laughed. Ethan wriggled, but between the way their armour interacted and his injury, he couldn't move the way he needed. Bellamy's arm trapped his legs and kept him in place. "You can't walk. Live with it."

"I hate you."

Bellamy shook with amusement while there was no audible laughter. "We have a complicated relationship."

"How come you have time off anyway? Aren't you needed on the front?"

"All generals and their men get a year off out of a cycle of five. Means the homeland has a set of soldiers stationed there for its defence, and no one gets too angsty. It's my turn."

"Ah. So it's not officially time off, but homeland protection duty." Ethan understood more. It was a very army way to give people time off while being on duty.

"Yep. Don't you get that?"

"I'm only a commander, remember? I haven't had time off since you almost ripped me in two a few years ago. Homeland duty is given as prizes and rewards. No rotation exists."

"That explains your current state. The scum wasn't a good fighter but you hadn't healed from our last encounter had you?" Bellamy had a touch of realisation in his voice. Ethan should defend his country and its army's policies, but he didn't have the energy to do so.

"No time to."

"Right. I've decided," Bellamy declared, "I'm kidnapping you."

"You're kidding."

"We'll see."

"Cress!" A voice shouted. Ethan groaned and slumped against Bellamy in defeat. "Bell, get his ass over here."
