(Y/n) takes a trip to the Shambali Monastery to learn how to fix her omnic friend, but in doing so, she gets the attention of the leader of Null Sector--who believes she's there to cause harm to his people. And with the knowledge she gains from Zeny...
(Y/n) stayed lost in thought until she was done with the Nulltrooper on the operation table in front of her, and even after she sat back on her heels, she wondered what she was supposed to do now. Everything was in place to stop Doomfist's plan, so her thoughts drifted to those she'd leave behind when Doomfist came for her and she joined Ramattra.
She pulled her phone from her pocket, thumb poised over her parents' contact, but she hesitated just like every time since Sombra pushed the device into her hands. What could she say to them? They probably thought she was dead already, so what good would it do to tell them that exact fear was about to come true? She wouldn't have the heart to carry out what she planned if she heard her mother's wails and her father's pleading.
The mechanic heaved a tired sigh, the feeling of death knocking on her door a familiar one. How many times had she thought she'd die lately and it turned out the grim reaper wasn't interested in her quite yet? She would've called it good luck if it meant she ended up in any other situation, but perhaps, in a twisted way, it was good luck. She'd go out with a bang, an explosive way to help someone she didn't even know and take revenge for her own mistake, and perhaps that's all she could ask for as a conclusion to her story. Her body was exhausted, weariness so deep in her bones she wondered if she'd ever be free from it, but the thought that she wouldn't have to do this much longer was comforting. She'd run from death so long that the thought of finally embracing it made her realize just how bad things had gotten, and with nobody else around to hear her, her head fell into her hands, catching the stream of tears before they could reach the floor.
The phone sat untouched for several minutes after (Y/n) regained control of herself while she blinked the lingering tears away, but when she finally took notice of it in her peripheral vision, her gaze lingered on the unknown contact 'L'. "I have a feeling an old friend will want to talk to you," was what Sombra said, and as curiosity took hold of her and with nothing left to lose, she decided to finally tap on it.
"Mata aeta na," was the first thing to come through her speaker, and her eyes widened at the familiar Japanese accent. A second later, the video call loaded and she was looking down at Genji, his hands clasped in a salute. "It is good to hear from you, (Y/n)." She sputtered, surprised he knew her name and even more so that he expected her call. She didn't put it past Sombra to have her fingers in multiple pies – the hacker seemed the type to play for whatever team benefited her most – but working with Overwatch seemed almost too good to be true.
"How'd you know I'd be calling?" (Y/n) asked when she found her voice.
"That's because of me, pua." Her breath caught as Laylani came into frame, eye lights twinkling with mischief. "I convinced Sombra to get you a phone. We were long past worrying something went wrong when you finally called, wahine." A flash of guilt crept up her spine, but Laylani didn't let it linger, well aware of the time crunch as her optics flickered to something off screen. "Now you have to hold up your end of the deal by telling her when we're going to attack Talon's base in Rome. We're way behind schedule, but we couldn't move in before you checked in."
"She made us promise to give her enough time to hack all the doodads she needed before then," a western accent caught (Y/n)'s attention as another person came on screen, and she found herself smiling almost unwittingly.
"McCree..."
