Lydia was already wide awake before her alarm clock went off. She had a terrible habit of waking up exactly 4 minutes before the rings sounded. Why she did this was unknown. Possibly because she was excited, or maybe because she just hated the obnoxious noise. She eyed the clock as it turned 7:29 am and turned it off just in time to avoid the ringing.
Allison was a heavy sleeper but Lydia had a feeling she'd be awake already.
"Allison" Lydia yell-whispered, "are you awake?"
"That's such a stupid question" the girl mumbled in response. Allison groaned at the fact that it was so early. Out of nowhere, the brown haired girl shot straight up squealing.
"Lyds it's our first day of college!"
Lydia suppressed a giggle and nodded at her friends excitement. She found herself contemplating the nickname Allison gave her. Lydia never really had a nickname before but she decided she liked it.
Allison definitely still had childlike qualities in her. Like when she chews on her hair when she's nervous or right now as she jumps up and down at her excitement for college. Allison must've noticed Lydia watching her and stopped jumping.
"I'm sorry, I really am normal I promise" she smiled.
"It's okay, just do your thing" Lydia breathed.
"I swear I only act like this in front of people in totally comfortable with. Which, come to think of it, is weird because I only met you a few weeks ago" Allison laughed as she realized she was rambling on.
The girl turned her iPod on and started to get ready. Both of them had class today, around the same time. Lydia's being at 9 and Allison's being at 10. It baffled Lydia that she woke up this early for a class at 10 but she didn't mention it.
Lydia had two classes today because of the fact she was majoring in earth science and minoring in world studies. It was an odd pair yes, but Lydia loves science and fell in love with with the history of the world so how could she pass up a chance to learn more of both. However, the scheduling was sometimes hard but in the end worked out.
"I'm going to go take a shower. See you in a few" Lydia said. They hadn't been fortunate enough to get one of the newer dorm rooms with a shower in it. Freshmen didn't get the perks like that. Next years freshmen though, they were lucky. The campus was expanding and the dorms Lydia and Allison we're currently living in, would be gone, and in place, newer, nicer, bigger dorms.
Lydia's phone buzzed and she saw that Jackson was calling. They had a strong relationship in the beginning of high school, broke up for a while, then senior year, got back together.
"Hey" Lydia sighed.
"Hey. I just wanted to make sure you're doing alright. You don't need help moving anything else or something like that right?"
"No I don't think so."
"Okay well, uh, text me later. Love you. Bye."
"Bye."
And the conversation ended. That was usually how they went; short and to the point. He didn't ask her if she'd met anyone new or likes it there or even tell her how his life was going. She used to try to get it out of him but he never wanted to talk, so she gave up.

Lydia felt refreshed after her shower. Her weird feeling that seemed to linger after Jackson's call went away. She pushed the door open only to hear a loud thump. Lydia ran to the hallway to see she had hit someone walking by with the door. He wobbled around a bit and Lydia grabbed his arms to keep him from falling.
"We gotta stop meeting like this" he said smiling, immediately rubbing his head.
"Here, sit down" she said lowering him to the ground. "I hit ya pretty hard didn't I"
"No, no, uh well, yeah you did"
"I'm so sorry. They really should make these doors swing inward" she nervously giggled.
The boy with the mesmerizing eyes stood up.
"I think, I think I'll be fine" he smiled a crooked smile. One with no teeth showing, but one you could tell was genuine.
"Well can I walk you to your dorm?"
"I think I'll be okay. Thanks though"
"Okay. I'm sorry, again"
And just like that, he was gone.
His smile struck her, and stayed with her for the rest of the day.
