"You really screwed me over by dying you know" Hisane frowned as she pointed to the memorial painting of Lu ten she always kept on her
"I mean, how did you even die??" She sighed "everything went down hill, father was so struck with grief he left his post and came back home, Mother.....I thought maybe we could be there for eachother during that time, but no. It only created more distance" she murmured
"I feel like you were the only thing really keeping us together, I get he lost his son but I lost you too" she said in a defeated tone as she remembered one of their last conversations
"I shouldn't have said that to him" she mumbled as she brought a hand to her face
"Hisane?" Sokkas voice spoke causing the girl to jump and while her tears, rolling up let tens painting and placing it in her pocket
"What are you doing here?" The nonbender as as he walked towards the Princess
"Oh, I just couldn't sleep" she smiled "what about you?"
"I couldn't sleep much either, then I heard you get up so I followed you here" He nodded, Hisanes face turning red in embarrassment
"Oh, you heard me" she cringed as Sokka awkwardly nodded "who were you talking to?"
"It was just a painting of my late brother" she hummed as she used the moon light to illuminate the illustration
"I see.." Sokka mumbled "I don't think it's weird or anything! I mean, I used to talk to the moon at night after I lost someone close to me, that's actually where I was planning to go tonight" he shrugged
"Oh, I'm sorry for your loss, was it recent?" She frowned as Sokka nodded "do you wanna join me?"
"We don't need to talk about your dad or anything, I can tell you don't wanna talk about it" Sokka hummed as the two of them dangled their legs over a cliff
"Thanks" she nodded
"What about your mum?" He smiled
"That experience was way worse" she scoffed as Sokka hung his head low in defeat
"Geez is every member of you family crappy?" He frowned earning a laugh from Hisane
"My fathers actually not crappy, he's a very respectable and wise man, but he just never really had time for me" she shrugged as Sokka listened to her
"It's tough when everyone only has a positive and almost idealised version of him and you can't share that view because you never got to experience that person" Hisane nodded "it just means that he can be that person, but you're just not good enough for him to act that way with you"
"I tried to go to war at eight with my dad and he told me to stay behind and protect the village, but I did a really bad job at it when your ponytail cousin attacked" Sokka shrugged in an attempt to connect with Hisane, a snort coming out of the princess that was followed by a loud and hearty laugh
"What? It was embarrassing" he frowned as she continued to laugh, prompting him to smile "I charged at zuko and he just knocked me into the snow with one hand!"
"Sokka don't kill me" she laughed as she wiped her tears "did you atleast land on hit?"
"My boomerang did!" He smiled causing both of them to laugh even more
"So how are your parents?" She smiled as sokkas eyes lit up
"Mum was great, she was always so kind and understanding, apparently I looked like her" Sokka hummed "and my dad, hes strong, attentive, courageous a great dad and husband and an amazing leader, I just want to see him again"
"That's nice" Hisane smiled "I guess they don't lie when they say the water tribe has a strong sense of community that holds them together"
"Family is very important" Sokka hummed "so there really is no one in your family who you're close with?"
"No there is" she nodded
"My brother Lu ten, he was my brother, my best friend and in a way my father, he was everything to me and my greatest role model," she smiled
"I actually have his hair piece right here," she explained
"My auntie ursa, she was great too, and she made the best pastries, but she disappeared when I was ten, only a few weeks after Lu ten died"
"How did he die?" Sokka frowned
"In battle, our nation laid siege on ba sing se for over six hundred days, dad returned without Lu ten" Hisane brought her hands to her knees
"Surprisingly, I do care for Azula and zuko" She smiled as sokkas eyes widened
"That blue fire girl??"
"Our relationship is complicated, but she's my little cousin, and we all grew up in the palace walls" Hisane hummed
"And zuko who you were shouting at?" He smiled
"Oh me and zuko are great" she smiled "he's just too temperamental and then it spurs on my temper" She shrugged
"No offence, I think your family is the most interesting one I've come across, not necessarily in a good way" Sokka said as he stared at moon, hisane laughing
"Yeah, none taken"
