Racing Hearts Part 1

Seeming to sense your thoughts, Kakashi spoke up.

"That's Pakkun. He's one of the ninken or rather ninja hounds that I can summon. He will help you four track down Sasuke. This is a mission, you four will find Sasuke, stop him, and await further orders in a safe place."

You nodded your head and quickly stood to your feet. You had no idea what happened to Sasuke but you were sure Sakura would explain along the way so you wasted no time in walking over to her, Naruto, and Shikamaru.

"Huh? What happened to Sasuke?" Naruto asked, voicing your curiosity and concern for the dark-haired male.

"I'll explain along the way." Sakura spoke, grabbing Naruto's arm and jumping out of the hole in the arena wall that Guy-sensei created.

You started to follow after them only to stop at the edge of the hole as Kakashi called after you.

"(YN). You are the fastest out of this group. I know you will be tempted to go ahead but don't. Stay with your team. You're not adept at tracking at there could be enemy ninja anywhere."

You nodded at Kakashi's words as you tilted your head over your shoulder and flashed him a closed-eyed smile.

"Don't worry Kashi-sensei. I'll be careful."

You wasted no time after you spoke these words and jumped out of the arena wall with Shikamaru and Pakkun following close behind.

Kakashi/third person P.O.V.

Kakashi's eye followed your retreating form as you disappeared into the surrounding woods. He would never admit it, but he was worried about you. You tended to be reckless and impulsive in battle. He knew you were more than willing to sacrifice yourself to win a fight. That much was made evident in your fight against Saito.

It was a bad habit to have and he had yet to discuss it with you. It left an unsettling feeling in the pit of his stomach and pushed him to fight faster. The sooner he finished this, the sooner he could catch up and make sure you stayed out of trouble.

Regular P.O.V.

You quickly jumped from tree to tree as you followed behind Pakkun. Sakura had already explained that Sasuke went after Gaara, Kankuro, and Temari so you were all caught up with everything. Well, everything that you were aware of that is. After everything that happened, you were pretty sure the entire village was under attack. You could only hope everyone was okay.

"Hurry it up! We're being followed." Pakkun suddenly spoke, breaking you from your thoughts.

"There are nine of them...We are going to have to try and throw them off our trail." He added as he suddenly stopped running.

"Hey, what's the big deal? Why are we stopping?!" Naruto shouted from beside you.

"Shut up!" Pakkun snapped, as he started to go back over his pawprints.

"Just follow my lead. We are going back over our tracks to try and throw them off. It'll look like we just disappeared." Pakkun added before jumping up into a tree branch once he finished backtracking his pawprints.

You followed suit along with Sakura, Shikamaru, and Naruto who continued to complain.

"Won't they still notice if we do this?" Naruto whined, his voice strained in annoyance.

"Yes, but it will give us some more time," Pakkun explained as the four of you finished backtracking and jumped onto the tree branch the small dog was sitting on.

"These ninjas are more than likely very skilled with many Chunin or even Jonin among their ranks. If they catch us we will be wiped out." Pakkun added, jumping away as he continued on Sasuke's trail once more.
