THEO'S POV

CHAPTER 54 - DON'T GET USED TO IT

03:00.

It was exactly 3 in the morning when I got home from my mission. This has taken most of my days lately, as we slowly find the lead that will bring us closer to the people and clan who are after Lia's life.

Out of all of us, Andreas was the most invested in this mission. Working tirelessly, Andreas followed every lead and left no stone unturned. He dedicated countless hours to gathering information just to get one step closer to uncovering their identities.

It was commendable, but if it hadn't been for his ulterior motives, I would have appreciated his efforts and dedication even more.

Well, we all know Andreas only wanted one thing--for this mission to get over and done with as quickly as possible because he was still wary that the longer I stayed in this situation, the higher the risk of something going wrong.

What a pathetic notion. I thought.

But Andreas is Andreas. He wouldn't stop until he sees the end of this mission. So, I let him be and we'll just see who will be laughing at the end.

When I entered The Villa property, it was quiet, and the only sounds I could hear were crickets chirping and leaves rustling in the wind, just like how a normal residence would be at night.

But it was more than just a normal residence.

I looked around just to take pride in my work. The satisfaction to see top-notch security installed and the guards on high-alert filled me with confidence that no one would be able to breach the Villa's layer of defenses.

Well, I thought about this extensively knowing the safety of the person I was protecting was my utmost priority. And seeing the strong security measures in place gave me reassurance that she would remain safe and secure even though I wasn't physically present.

As I continued my way inside the Villa, doubt quickly greeted me. Out of instinct, I pulled out the gun behind my back, ready to defend as I saw a figure hiding on the couch. I cautiously approached, and tightened my grip on the gun.

Whoever the fuck dared to come into my territory was about to face their ultimate demise.

But as I got closer, a cold shiver ran down my spine when I realized who it was--Lia

Fuck, I almost shot her! I quickly pulled the gun away. It was a split-second mistake that could have had irreversible consequences.

I slowly crept closer and knelt down next to her, studying her face in the dim light of the living room. Her chest rises and falls with each breath.

She was sound asleep on the couch, so innocent and vulnerable. She didn't even have a blanket to cover her. Though the Villa was always set to have a comfortable and cozy temperature, she was only wearing a thin nightgown, making her more susceptible to the cold.

I gulped at the sight of her, I immediately removed my coat and gently draped it over her body, ensuring that she would be warm and protected.

She or you?

I ignored the mocking thought and focused on the situation instead.

Why wasn't she even in the room at this hour? She could have been easily targeted by any intruder who happened to come into the house.

I couldn't help but feel a protective instinct overtake me. So with that, I felt the need to move her immediately to the bedroom. But just as I was about to do it, I noticed something in her hand. Even while fast asleep, she held onto the book as if it were a cherished possession.
